Forums - Sales - Software sales to be down in 2014?

It is a strange year. PS4 sales are great - no doubt. But the software sales look strange to me. Destiny, while sold good, was not as successful as it thought to be. Transition of buyers to PS4 looks OK, but the sales/preorders of intergenerational games on X360/PS3 are much down and X1 software sales are low.

Could it be a big drop on the total software sales on Ps3/Ps4/X360/X1 in 2014 comparing to 2013?

Because of delay and less high profile games in 2014. On the contrary 2015 will be bigger and better. Lots of games to play on all platforms.

All hype + lack of quality = Lackluster sales. Plus really all 8th generation consoles have yet to produce the "NEXT BIG GAME" yet (we all thought Destiny was going to be it).

Also rising digital.

Well, a lot of the "high profile" games that came out this year got neh reviews and wtf PR tactics that probably lead that

I mean, you have watch dogs with its questionable tactics and downgrade. And you have destiny which was suppose to be the second coming of Jesus by a lot of people with some predicting 30 million + sales and then the game came out and it recieved decent reviews but it certainly was no Jesus game vs 2013, you had GTA V, Last of US, Bioshock Infinite and tons of fap fap fap worthy games that never dissappointed!

So the common opinion is that while PS4 as a hardware is a success, the software is in serious decline? Also, Sony's 1st party games for 2014 is meh too?

This was your OP. Oh and your "conclusion" is wrong.

Wanna bet? My bet is that the total software sales on VGChartz for PS3+PS4+X360+X1 for 2013 will be bigger than for 2014.

WiiU software sales are up

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

Overall sales may be lower, but they tend to be lower for years where there is a hardware transition, like this year, as publisher are experimenting with the new tech and people start transitioning. Software sales for the ps4 are very good for this point in its cycle, it has already passed x360's software sales on its first full year of release and with the holiday should surpass ps3's first full year as well, shouldn't touch wii's first full year software though.
