Pretty bad news tbh.
Engine switches usually happen when:
you are too far behind in release schedule for the game that when it would eventually be released, it would be outdated compared to the competition.
It is a time consuming endeavor too, since you don't progress in the development by converting existing assets and finding new bugs in the new engine.
Though, the switch probably happened because of a reason.. that is, their own old engine probably had issues of it's own.
There is 0% chance it hits before 2017 now. And 2018 is more likely in all honesty.
Man luminous must have been a train wreck. I guess this explains why the CTO and head of Luminous studio left a few months ago. Funnily enough Square Enix were actually one of the first people to officially license UE4. So I guess they saw how smoothly development was going with that project and decided it would speed up development across other projects.

imagine how good SE would be if they actually knew how to develop a game and on time!

Square never used an engine before per-say. They were just made the hard way.

If they have to switch engines again, I hope they use Source Engine, so that it goes to PC.

Sorry.. but no. they USED an engine before. you need that to run the game.
Perhaps they've never bought an 'off the shelf' one before though.

If they decide to switch it again, the game is pretty much dead. or it is going to be absolute garbage (DNF i am looking at you).
They will probably do a nameswitch in that case, so it wont be associated with a 10year developement nightmare. (look at Versus 13 -> FF 15)
