Pokemon.

Dragon Quest is. It is almost religion over there.

It's arguably Dragon Quest. They may be relatively close sales-wise (though Monster Hunter Tri did not sold all that well), but DQ is a cultural phenomenon there. No other franchise is bigger.

your not lying lol.

Regardless of what either franchise has achieved in the past, it is Monster Hunter that has the upper hand in terms of trend and sales. A franchise is as only as strong as it's last big release and Dragon Quest is weak in that case. It doesn't matter if an IP isn't used to it's full potential for a long time since what matters most is current strength so one may as well assume that the IP will remain weak until it can break that cycle of downward spiral.

No one can deny that Dragon Quest X is a failure compared to previous installments. Monster Hunter 4 on the other hand performed decently.

MHF3 on PSP sold better in Japan then DQ IX on DS. Those are the highest selling entries in each respective franchises in Japan. So I guess MH..

DQX a failure? its an mmo though like ff14. Its not a failure, it sold well.

DQX is indeed a failure no matter how you look at it ... MMO's aren't very cheap to make and you have to support it with new content consistently and all of that wasn't justified in how DQX performed and compared to FF XIV, DQX got destroyed in the subscription department.

Whether it's an MMO or not makes no difference since these games are big AAA releases and despite FF XIII Lighting Returns being a spin off it isn't exempt from being tested against the franchise ...
