@bold Disagree. Out of the 10m sellers all xbox games excluding kinect have shooting mechanics, while out of 10m sellers for Sony they have 1 game that does not have shooting mechanics.

Exclusives above 5m for MS: All Halos ( shooters) ,All Gears (shooters), Forza 3 (racing)

Exclusives above 5m for Sony: Uncharted 2 and 3+ TLOU (shooters), MGS 4(Stealth shooter?) , GT5 (racing), LBP (Platform), God of war 3 (Action- Adventure)

MS focused on shooters for Xbox 360, while the PS3 had a more varied library. If you were looking for a shooterbox then xbox 360 would be perfect, while if you wanted a good platform or action adventure game then PS3 would be ok.

Note: Sony released some PR saying that God of war 3 sold/ shipped 5.2m in 2012. http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/pdf/120605d_e.pdf

Well when you exclude the stuff that disproves your point, it's easy to make your point. See look:

If you exclude GT5, ALL of PS3's top 8 selling titles are shooters. All of them.

And does it really say a lot about the buying habits of Xbox fans that Fable 3 misses your criteria by like a hundred thousand units? When you start to exclude and put minimums all you're doing is making a biased point.

Also CoD kind of should have sold better on Xbox last gen, after all it got one of the best ones (CoD2) that PS3 never got. So the franchise got off to a slower start on PS3, but by the end PS3 fans love shooters just as much. One glance at the top sellers proves it. "Shooterbox" is just a slight to Xbox gamers people use while they play Uncharted and Last of Us.

If we include the entire library of sales, then the xbox will look more like a shooterbox then the PS3. However I am too lazy to go through every single title. Simply with going by my comparison shows what exclusives MS and Sony focused on. Fable 3 can be added, as I added God of war 3. But it would not change the outcome. And I honestly do not know if MGS4 is a shooter or not. And I also forgot kinect sports.

7/10 exclusives at fable 3 or above are shooters for MS,  While 3 or 4 out of 7 exclusives at 5m or above are shooters for Sony.

why should i trust vgc software

If you have something more reliable to show than pleae, be my guest and add it into the discussion. As of now these are the most reliable numbers I know. For all we know, the gap could be wider than you think!

cod was always a xbox franchise

installbase for 360 vs ps3 is still nearly the same

so why should ps3 now magically have a higher attachrate?

why that 1m adjustment up?

doesnt make sense to me. and without any explanation i dont take it to serious

I guess PS3 gamers are still satisfied with their system then.  :)

could only be possible in continental europe and rest of the world.

in the usa and uk the software sales drop for ps3 is bigger than x360. so ps3 migrate faster to current gen

but that still doenst explain why vgc made an 800k adjustment for call of duty: ghosts ps3 version (ps4 got an 100k adjustment)

but x360 and x1 none

you talk as if the figures were accurate before. How do you know they weren't undertracking ghosts on playstation for the get go. I'm sure they had their reasons for adjusting it and didn't just wake up 1 day and say fuck it lets give ghosts on ps3 some sales. ANyhow if you get your hands on more reliable data fire away.

MS sell it for 200$ less than they did and 100$ less than they are now? I'm pretty sure they want to win shareholders over with the xbox brand not give them the final straw that makes them say, yep get rid of it.

I also think it's unfair to just say the 360 with a cheaper price and early release is the only reason the 360 did well. In that case the Wii U should be doing much better. The fact is the 360 was a very good machine and people liked it. If it wasn't very good it could never do well. No matter how much SOny messed up.

Edit: I just realized that we're talking about this on a thread with nothing to do with this. I forgot how we even got here. Back to topic please! COD is Sony's once again!

Why do Sony fans keep mentioning the shareholders? MS clearly doesn't make all their decisions based solely on what some shareholders want. Anyhow, the larger market share means greater potential profits from software, Gold memberships, etc.

I'm not saying the price is the only reason 360 did well. It was just a huge reason.

Wii U is struggling because the tablet control isn't appealing and casual audiences aren't buying next gen consoles.

If CoD is Sony's then it would be an exclusive.

I clearly didn't mean COD is Sony's like that. I meant it does most of it's sales on playstation now so the COD community on PS is bigger than it on Xbox. That's all so don't imply I meant anything esle. Couldn't think of a better way to world it.

As for the shareholders. They were happy as it is so do you think MS selling the same hardware at 200$ less wouldn't cause a riot?

If it was 200$ less you could prob say they'd sell a good 80m and that number of consoles x 200$ is 14 billion. Honeslty your suggestion of them selling it much cheaper is daft and nop company run by shareholders in their right mind would allow it. The hardware would need to be 200$ cheaper to build so that would mean it would have the power of the PS3/360. SO yeah I don't think your suggestion was viable.

PS4 - 2.67M

Xbox One - 2.03M

Let me play devils advocate by pointing out that these sales do not reflect a 2:1 difference in installbase.

Nothing wrong with that and I agree with you. Not saying PS has a higher attach rate I'm just saying that overall there is a bigger COD community on PS. I think this is a big milstone as for years Xbox had COD firmly in it's grip. I know the sales difference make changes like this easy but it doesn't mean we should stop pointing them out.

The 360 had a much bigger install base in the US last gen and that effectively won it thje COD battle. Nobody used that as an excuse then.

The logical way to say it is... "COD sells be on Playstation." Your wording is misleading, click bait.

$200 less would be without Kinect. So, $100 less. Again, the goal would be to make profit back in software, accessories, and gold subscriptions. MS can afford to take that risk. They bought Minecraft because they can take risks. Did MS shareholders like that decision? Who cares.

Your math is illogical. The $299 X1 wouldn't include Kinect. Nor would it sell for a loss for the entire generation. It would become cheaper to produce over the years. Also, a bigger userbase is more software, accessories, and Gold subscriptions. Seriously, use some common sense.

ofc i dont have.

only reliable data we got is for us and europe (uk the most and germany + frace we got the 100k+/200k+ awards)

the 800k adjustment was split between europe and rest of world figures.

but dont forget. software adjustment, without hardware adjustment.

thats what i mean with attach rate.

its gone up "magically". any only for ps3 (and to a lesser extend ps4)

but maybe its right, because we know games like the last of us were undertracked here
