Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft not happy with Xbox One sales in Japan

Xbox has no chance in Japan unless they buy one of the biggest Japan Ip like Final fantasy or Dragon quest but no way they could buy those big IP

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

That sucks for any developer that's developing exclusive games for them.

If they did that. Tomb Raider hate would be like an ant biting your foot. The Xbox would be crusified and hated forever lol.

Actually I don't think Square Enix are doing that great right now, so they probably could buy them. They just went for Minecraft instead

I have a feeling Japan wouldnt allow a foreign company to purchase a company of such high profile even if they could easily afford it.

The fuck MS? what did you expect with that half assed launch? 100% deserved! try harder next time.

heh, you may well be right. Just found this and it sounds like it could happen, but only if Square Enix were doing like really really bad and nobody else was willing to invest.

'It is a fact that in Japan buying and selling companies or even parts of companies is resorted to only when the remaining option is bankruptcy. The nature of the capital market, the nature of personnel practices, and indeed the very concept of the company, make sale and purchase of a successful company unacceptable.'

thought so, was just to lazy to search for some facts

They should focus on China, they have a head start, they can take the country if they really try.

The sales seem perfectly in line with the priority Microsoft put on Japan. Honestly I could see the baseline dipping lower in the coming months.

MS really though the x1 would sell like hot cakes in japan lol. they need a price drop and they need to give a year of gold away for free with very x1 then people might buy it

Unfortunately that wouldn't work either.  The X1 suffers from too many things that don't appeal to the market there.  Online competitive gaming is also far FAR less popular in JP. They prefer single player games and of course the RPGs. Another issue is the gigantic size of the console + power brick + kinect (if someone wants it). Japanese players typically have smaller areas for their gaming setups, so they appreciate elegant designs.
