Forums - Gaming - What do you think about Gamergate?

?!

I am for it. 38 40.86%

I am against it. 8 8.60%

I am one who doesn't care. 29 31.18%

I am one who is interested in the results. 18 19.35%

Total:93

This is a question I simply want to ask, no more, no less. Well, considering that this is the best gaming forum I've been a part of*, I feel that this is the best place to ask: from people who care about games.

(It should be obvious what my stance is on this, considering my sig.)

So, what do you think of it?

Is it a train wreck that should be stopped at all costs?

Is it something that you would support?

Is it something you simply don't give a damn about?

(I'm still debating with myself on whether to put this in the politics section instead, though.)

Yea .... your going to have to fill us in

I don't particularly give a flying fuck anymore.

I understand that many want to stamp out corruption and nepotism in gaming journalism/media, which is fine and dandy, which I am all for it.

I know that Zoe Quin isn't a good human being, with all her lies and deception. I don't particularly like how she uses Sexism as a shield against legit criticism directed at her.

But the amount of disgusting comments coming from gamer's, especially here, if off putting. Any constructive discussion is lost in the vile of "she is fucking slut" comments. Many lost sight of the core issue, and used the controversy as fodder to spread hatred towards certain individuals.

Until the conversation becomes civilized or at least constructive, I am not going to partake in such conversation.

These are my thoughts anyway.

What's Gamergate?

I'm not really that interested in it, to be honest.

Is it good that the people running these publications are trying to cover up and influence what readers think? No, of course not, but I've never expected anything different. I'm not that naive. These are for-profit media groups. Legitimate news organizations that are supposed to practice journalistic integrity are as corrupt as a room full of politicians, why would I think a bunch of glorified bloggers would act differently?

It just proves what I've always assumed.

Not that I'm saying that every individual writer or editor is without ethics, but the system as a whole, I don't see any reason for blind trust. That's why I'm not exactly upset or outraged. This really changes nothing for me.

Obviously it should be talked about, however. It should be communicated that trust can be broken with the audience when someone who writes about games has a secret relationship with someone who makes games. No publication should turn a blind eye to that.

Well everything say by Zoe Quinn's ex-boyfriend about her was a complete fabrication and just a petty attempt to get revenge on her. The rest is up for debate.

Thats not true...but you are a month too late for that debate. This isn't about Zoe Quinn anymore, its about the issues that the whole scandal brought up.

I am for the idea of Gamergate, but I don't think its being executed well. Honestly, I don't know if there is a way to execute it well. But no matter what, we need to open up the lanes of discussion, not just among us, but among the "journalists". We need to talk, and not just deflect the whole thing away as being "sexist" and whatnot. The fact that so many large news sites stayed silent on the Zoe Quinn thing, or worse, fought on Zoe's side, is the worst part of all of this...we need healthy discussion in order to change
