Forums - Gaming - Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is 1080p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition will run at 1080p/30fps on both PS4 and Xbox One, Square Enix has confirmed to VideoGamer.com.

I was given the opportunity to go hands-on with the PS4 version of the upcoming remaster last week, with the Definitive Edition's dynamic lighting and volumetric fog breathing a new lease of life into the last-gen open worlder.

United Front Games is handling both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions itself, Square confirmed, with the power of the next-gen consoles apparently letting the developer squeeze in 25 per cent more NPCs onto Hong Kong's city streets.

Each of the main characters have received tweaks to their character models, too, which Square claims has led to improved faces, while the number of objects in the environment has been increased to provide more items to smash during fights.

Oh, and the higher resolution textures found in the Definitive Edition means that the creases in Wei Shen's jacket now look even lovelier than they did before.

That said, the frame rate of the PS4 version did appear to dip slightly during moments of intense action, although with optimisation still underway, it's impossible to determine whether the issues will still be present in the final game.

VideoGamer.com has not yet been given access to the Xbox One version for comparison.

Outside of the visuals, Square says that tweaks have been made to the game's physics and vehicle handling, although such improvements weren't immediately noticeable during my hands-on. Getting behind the wheel of one of the game's sports cars, for example, felt similarly weightless to those in the original release.

For a closer comparison between the last-gen version and Definitive Edition, have a look at the video preview below in which we compare the Xbox 360 version with the PS4 version.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition launches on Xbox One, PS4 and PC on October 10.

Why do they release it on PC? that version is already the 'definitive' version

Hmmm interesting... I thought the ps4 version would get something a little extra like higher fps or something so I wonder if there is something with that

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

30fps? How about lower down 720p & have 60fps.

Bah, i'll buy one for the PC.

I figured the PS4 version might have an unlocked frame rate that exceeds 30 while Xbox One had a locked 30 framerate. Maybe the PS4 version has slightly better visual effects instead, or maybe they decided to aim for parity.

Given that its just a port of a last gen games, so mostly improved textures and lighting, they probably just aimed for parity.

I'm fine as long as this doesn't turn into a "MS paid off the dev for parity" circkejerk.

Well the PC version of this game looked much better than then 7th gen console ports. So I'm guessing 8th gen versions are basically just the PC's graphics running at high settings.

"The PC version benefits from substantial improvements to texture quality and a vast range of enhanced DX11 effects, helping to make it the version of choice if you have a capable computer."

”The environment where PlayStation wins is best for this industry” (Jack Tretton, 2009)

I'm kind of thinking publishers got pushed up against the wall with this 1080p@60fps thing since people made such a big deal about it. If they aim for parity they piss off one fanbase, if they don't they piss of another fanbase.

Even so, it's really hypocritical aiming for parity now when last gen a lot of devs didn't do the same for PS3, this very game for example which not only ran sub HD on the PS3(640p,) but had a day one patch of 2GB in order to do so. They couldn't wait to push the game out of the gate.

Maybe it won't have frame drops.
