Big but very short spikes for hardware in Japan this generation, such a volatile market this has turned out to be. Bayo 2 not giving the amazing boost some seemed to believe it would, the effect is likely to be even smaller in the West. 100k first week globally and 300k lifetime?

dear mummelmann tell me about your predictions when wind waker hd(1m+ ltd) sold 30k first week in japan and didn t gave boost to wii u ther!(but 7k pre week in usa and in the week of release 6k,europe 22k week of release, row 2k pre week and week of release 3k)?

Zelda and Bayonetta 2 are two different beasts though, there was never any grounds for believing that Bayo 2 would do very well globally or in specific regions. As for predictions; I don't recall making any for Windwaker HD and I honestly had no idea how it would be recieved.

A well known, flagship franchise that Nintendo have released for thirty years cannot compare to a semi-niche title in a semi-niche genre on a completely unproven platform. If someone were to release the sequel to ZombiU or Wonderful 101; there would be no reason to expect high sales either. These are not very good numbers for Bayonetta 2 and lifetime sales will likely fall very short of many expectations. I guess we'll see over the next few weeks how it does; if the holidays can't help it move along, nothing ever will.

oooo for god's sake i do not compare them ;)  simply i disagree to take japan as  an indication for bad or good sales in the west and  i suggest to wait for the western release,if it also  fails there then feel free to call it a flop:P

joking?

Why would that be a joke, Zero999? Back for more single word posts I see.

it's too surreal for someone to actually say it. back to cheap provocations? oh, wait, you never stopped those.

bpth bayo 2 and hyrule warriors will do much better in the west. and bayo 2 will do better than hyrule warriors.

What a fucking flop Bayonetta 2 is... to think that it failed to reach the sales of a multiplatform Xbox 360 title in Japan is just pathetic, to say the least.

Such a shame. I loved the original, and I hate to see the franchise dragged through the mud like this.

So with a lower user base the X360 sku of Bayo 1 opened to almost double the Wii U Bayo 2 sku. Maybe Hideki Kamiya should stop telling fans to "F*ck off" on Twitter. :)

Ultimate proof Nintendo audience doesn't buy mature/non first party games. Even the doomed 360 which had an installbase smaller than the WiiU's in JAPAN, managed to outsell Beyonetta 2!

i'm realistic so a Bayo game won't really sell that much. i don't know why a lot of people are overreacting.
it is just really a handheld market nowadays in Japan. and not into consoles. hopefully it would be better for all consoles before we reach the end of the year.

Meh. I had a feeling it would sell around this number. Definitely better than what the people in the Tsutaya thread predicted, but still absolutely dismal sales all around. I think DK opened at this number as well in Japan. Hoping global LTD sales at least mirror that of DK as well.

Edit: just checked and DK actually opened at a lower number, 36k and only sold through 35% of its initial shipment. I don't think that's necessarily telling of how Bayo 2 will do in the long run, but it's an interesting comparison at least.

It's true that Japan is a poor indicator of performance in the West, and vice versa, but I don't see any reason to think it'll do much better there.

Like I said; we'll see over the next few weeks, 2nd and 3rd week sales are a lot more telling of potential for lifetime sales.

Surprised X1 is still in four figures actually. Bayonetta 2 is a bit disappointing, I don't think we will see a third one.
PS4 needs a steady stream of Japanese games which obviously isn't happening this year.
