Sony is in a terrible economic situation but I did not think it was THAT bad.

Between 2003 and 2013

Sony Life Insurance made $9.07 billion in operating profit.

It's a very lucrative business, even if they're mismanaging it as well.

This is why I laugh when someone says MS or EA are evil.

Insurance companies on the other hand are derived from the dead skin cells of Jeebus himself.

AH OK man i get it, i agree with that, and even if Sony got in a REAL bad situation, i doubt Playstation would cease to exist, the company would just shrink and become just a gaming/insurance company.

ALSO on a totally off topic note... have you seen this!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT3dyanB3pk&feature=player_embedded

it looks so good!

What about their music and movies division?

Music posted an operating income of $463,000,000 for FY2013.

Movies posted an operating income of $475,100,000 for FY2013.

Who knows how much was left after taxes though.

Come on people this isnt as known as you are making it seem, maybe for us (the "hardcore" very dedicated) gamers that have been following this three companys for some years now yes it is known, but for the avarege consumer out there... they have no idea.

Why would any common consumer outside of Japan know most of Sony profits nowadays is made from life insurance and financial services sold exclusively in Japan??? Well besides the selling of buildings as some of the folks here like to remember.

oh thats great!, i thought that Spiderman movie wasnt profitable but this looks good, i like some of their movies and i wouldnt want that division to go away either so thats good!, and good to know their music department is also doing good, seems that Smartphones, tablets and TVs are the ones doing bad which sucks because i really like my Bravia TV and would like to own a 4k Bravia in the far future, and i actually wanted the Z1 smartphone but that price man!, i know its a gret phone but i just couldnt afford it, if it was only a little bit cheaper i would have taken it home.

Selling life insurance to people who never die, sounds like a scam to me.

Most insurance is a scam. It's a great way to make money if you have the stomach for it. Most people I know that have worked in insurance find it very hard. Sales is ok, but working in the claims department can be tough as you have to find loopholes and reasons NOT to pay out.

well they wont... did you even read my comment at all? i literally said it at the very beginning of my comment and at the end... the only people who would know this are either japanese, or gamers like us that are interested somehow in knowing about this companys profits and business...

or is your question not directed to me?...
