Is the PS4 sold at a loss or profit?

All ive heard is that it's close too, if not profitable so id assume sonys PS4 division isn't doing too badly. Although they also said that very few first party titles make a profit so I really have no idea how well it's doing, third party software must be generating some decnet profits I guess.

Funny I thought their smartphone division was having record sales (8M+) awhile ago. Dat TV Division = WOOF

Has nothing to do with PS4

It should be at a profit right now.

the ps and entertainment divisions are the only things that are holding up sony right now.

Not enough to offset the losses, but that's the bright spot I suppose.

Yay... cheap stocks to buy.

Yeah, 10% drop is possible today.  Though owning a non dividend paying share that doesnt have much growth prospects soon isnt too appealing.  Possibly a decent long hold I guess.

Interesting enough, WSJ rate SNE a Hold today.  After reading their reasons for not selling, I am not sure they should sell their mobile unit.  The problem is cutting costs because their revenue is SKY HIGH.  The plot thickens.  Positive is their revenue outpaces the industry.  Negatives (obvious) is that they have problems converting that rev into profit.  You and me would think to sell but investors look at the whole picture.

If it is sold at a loss, then the ten million sold accolade does not matter. But if sold at a profit, then this is even worse, because they are doing really well on the games side of things.

Its been stated on multiple occasions that the are selling at a profit.  Also, game revs were up substancially in last quartly... unfortunately the other parts of the company (mainly mobile) is eating into everything.

Dropping the C, E, M, T and whatever alphabet letter they have for their phones and only keeping the Z series won't make it rise above an Apple and Samsung.. I don't even think their flagship phones will thriumph against the cheaper Chinese flagship phones from Miui, Oppo, Oneplus..

Rising above the competition shouldn't be a goal right now. They're more focused on returning to the profits of previous years, which they should be. 8th place but profitable is better than this.

4 ≈ One

That's unfortunate, personally I've always loved Sony's TV and phones. I'm loving my Xperia Z1. Hopefully it'll turn around.

So it's phones fault...
I don't buy expensive phones, a cheap but rugged Motorola is more than enough for me, but I really can't understand why almost all people willing to spend a lot on these things go with Apple or Samsung like sheeps when many top end Sony models match them in HW, SW and communication features and, in some models, add water, shock and dust resistance, that in devices so expensive should be very desirable, and on top of all this, they offer a distinctive style, quite different from competitors. Luckily, recent polls show people liking (but this won't necessarily reflect on sales) the latest Motorola, Nexus and HTC top end models more than both iPhone 6 and the latest Samsung, maybe people are waking up, but I'd have expected a warmer welcome for the latest Sonys too.

Think of this issue like Origin VS Steam. Ignoring Origin having only EA games for a second. Once you get something from one brand. You don't want to bother gettting anything else. Even if another brand is better. Just stick with one thing. You don't have to deal with buying apps etc. under something else. You have to get lucky like Samusung to have enough people just leave Apple.
