It will definitely work for Destiny. Bundles and exclusive marketing was a huge deal for Bungie's new effort.

It will definately work for PS4/Sony there is no doubt, like it did with Watch_Dogs... that's not to say it wont sell well on XBO, because they have been starved of any major games in the last 6 months, so its going to be big, but PS4 is going to be massive.
The guy made a point that retail copies of Destiny would be slightly higher on XBO because the PS4 bundle isnt included in the sales figures, but thats ignoring the fact that the *CONSOLE* is selling massive quantities with destiny. Crazy logic to not include the fact that a bundle is selling the console....lol

Uhm, have you not noticed the amount of PS4s that Destiny has been moving? The point of exclusive marketing is not to not have the other systems version not sell at all, neither Sony nor Activision would benefit from that.
Edit: Which is not to say that the splits won't prove that the marketing worked, they will.
| wary-wallaroo said: It depends I think. It works for games like WD and Destiny because they're new IP, which makes it easier to dupe people into thinking it's truly exclusive. With games like CoD or AC, everyone knows they come out on everything so it's a lot less effective. It also has to do with install base. It's a lot easier for it to be effective for Sony since they're already doing very well. For MS, it's an uphill battle in every way. |
Very true. Which make you wonder why MS feels the need to pour millions into games that everyone knows is launching on the PS4, and WILL sell more on it, as well.

this is, what op is talking about
"I was hearing things about exclusive marketing being as good as having the game exclusive"
but the game isn't associated as a playstation exclusive
sure it moved hardware units. but they're also moved because of the new color
and this game also moved some consoles on the other platform beside the exclusive marketing
so the question is: did the amout of money spend on this marketing worked out. did it worked better out than the watch dog exclusiv marketing deal.
on one hand, yes
on the other hand, not
but now u see me statement is correct. it depends. sometimes it does work out (very) well. sometimes it doenst.
but this game is new and we have to wait a lil longer to see longterm succes of the deal. is this agreement for the destiny successors, too?
if this game realy turns out to be the next billion dollar franchise (right now it doubt it. but we will see waht bungie can do to the content lack) and sony got the exclusive marketing deal for every destiny game, than ofc it will work out

But pal charts is just one part of the picture.
For example:
XBO sells 200k Retil copies
PS4 sells 180k retail copies
XBO sells 30k Bundle copies
PS4 sells 150k bundle copies
Which one has done better? It's obvious that in terms of pushing hardware and retail copies Sony has done the better. If sony does better in both then what? Exclusive marketing for the win :)

Ah so we are going to use "it was the colour" if the PS4 sells more bundles. It doesnt matter if it's the new colour, Destiny, or just because its PS4, what ever sells more has sold more. There is no way you, me or anyone else can work out why, the only thing that matters is what sold more.
Also MS missed a massive trick, they released a white console to their staff at launch and failed to release one before the PS4, to me that is a marketing fail.
