That's definitely not true that games don't live up to their "insane hype". The Last Of Us, GTA V, and Uncharted 2 are recent examples. Games don't always live up to their hype, but then, if the gamers disagree, the reviews are, mostly, pointless.

I don't get all the negativity towards this game, but then, everyone is not me.

i dont think its negativity but more as a weird mind of state of a overhyped game "needs" to be a 90+ which both TF and Destiny failed to do. Unfortunately thats how it is despite 75-85 on meta is considered a good game.

But thats just me.

I'm with you. For me, anything above 60 works, but in this day and age, with the younger generation dictating how things roll, it's 90+ or nothing.

i mostly agree. i think 70+ is fine. avg games seem to be 70-80. 60 might be on the concerning side imo.

That said, its not like many games get 90+ anyway. But i'll say im surprised at 74 for Destiny (could go up, still only like 15 reviews). I thought it would be around 90, i heard many good things from it. I think shooters might be hitting saturation? Oh well, if you enjoy, enjoy it. I hate COD but definitely enjoy Halo.

Leave it up to the players. (though 90+ would make sure to have bragging rights lol)

I've been enjoying the game, played it for more than a few hours already. I'd rate it an 8.5/10. One of the main issues I do have with the game is pvp feels somewhat unbalanced, too many ways to get ohk. Also, the campaign does get repetitive at times.

Personally it's lived up to my expectations of being a solid shooter with some MMO mechanics. I'm not sure what people were expecting they had a Beta, Alpha, and numerous demos to see how this game would play and Bungie was very clear on what it would be. It'll continue to expand and much like a pure MMO will only get better over time. It's not a game to be played in a weekend and trust me after trying a raid I was apparently way too high a level for and quitting half way through, it has long term challenge. Looking forward to the first expansion pass and I'm not even done with the main game (level 14 Warlock and have to visit the Awoken as my next mission)

I am not wasting my time with mediocre games. There are enough better games out there. Ok at the moment people who only own a PS4 or XBone have not much choice. But even then they should wait for better games.

When ppl hype something this much they expect it to be a masterpiece or they get disapointed, and theres no worst feeling for a consumer than disapointment. While 7-8 is not a bad score it certainly is a score living up to the expectation this game generated. I wasnt gona buy it anyway , I dont realy like games in first person specialy when theyre shooters, but I get why ppl are upset. And there are some exceptions to the rule, some games do live up to the hype, but more often than not games (and movies as well) cant keep up with insane amounts of mindless hype, and its so much hype its even hard to tell where it all comes from realy.

If ppl didnt get carried away so easilly, stayed more grounded to reality wed have fewer cases of massive disapointment.

Isn't it great that people are slowly learning to try out games that are below 70 instead of being a slave to reviews? :)

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

The post-release claims of a game being overhyped or having way too much hype whenever the reviews are copy/paste of previews, I don't understand. Because it's popular, activision is advertising it, and people are buying it, it has too much hype?

I don't see very many "upset" people. I mostly see a lot of claims that the game is "bad" based on average to above average scores. Thus, my confusion (and suspicions) continue.

You make a fair point, ppl have a tendency to go from "this game is gona be the best" to "this game is total crap" in seconds if metascore is any lower than 80.

Wow... So much for selling 30 million according to some people lolll cause at this rate, the sales are gonna go down by next year (if not sooner) provided the game really is this mediocre

I dont know others but I know they lost my cash. My friends are playing destiny. I waited. It was a good move. I didnt wasted my cash.

It's always good to not fall for hype. But are you planning to pick it up in the future? Because from what i understand the game is the most fun with friends and only if you're at the same level.

I think a game could be enjoyable and yet forgettable when you finish it if it's a 6-7 game, but in my opinion when people think about a"really good game", a 8-9-10 game is when that game really sticks to you someway long after you played it.

To me a 6-7 game could be a game that made my time playing it somewhat entertaining, you played 5h, 10h, 20h... and then you pass to other game not looking back to that game again. That's what Destiny is to me, and considering this game was advertised as something you will play for 10 years, this is ultimately disappointing (or upsetting considering the level of hype you had).

Gamespot and others are getting this game right at this moment, to me is a 7/10 game, not bad but not memorable.
