Forums - Gaming - Bungie Warns Destiny Day-One Reviews Might Not Tell the Whole Story

Day one reviews of MMOs in general are also outdated after a year.

I tought they would at least mention that.

I think I've only ever seen one review update itself one year in for an MMO and it was for GW2, I think. Which, looking at it, probably isn't too surprising as its the only MMO that seems to have survived longer than a few months...

Sounds like Bungie is trying to cover their asses once the hype is over and the inevitable disappointment of some gamers who bought into the hype starts to sink in.

No matter, they've already got their millions of preorders and exclusive deals, so World Of Halo Destiny will be making mad bank for them regardless of what the reviews say.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

FFXIV 2.0 is going pretty well.

The secret world kept is niche userbase. (RolePlay especially)

Ultima online still have a userbase (that one is impressive), WoW too, DAoC also

It's MOBA's golden age though.

Egh, I think it'll score in the mid 80s. Don't really care either way.

That's fair. I mean, if someone said, "I played 20 hours of WoW, here is a review," it would meet with general amusement from anyone who's played for any significant length of time.

Even WoW reviews were high from the beginning though. It received acclaim from basically all gaming magazine and websites. I don't ever remember reading about WoW getting anything lower than a 9 out of 10, or lower than a 90%.

You can even check in Wikipedia in this link. Just go to reception section.

Doesn't sound good is right. This just goes to show you the power of hype. If this game is anything short of spectacular, it would be a huge disappointment. I'm sure the PS4 hype crowd would still eat it up however, since their only about 2 to 5 games really worth getting on the system.

That doesn't nullify my point.  With WoW, most of the game was played after you reached level 60.  A review that doesn't touch on that, good or bad, is like a restaurant review where the reviewer only eats the salad.  Bungie is saying that no one has yet played a significant part of Destiny.  Anyone who has played MMOs will understand what they mean.

As for WoW getting good reviews, at the time it was like 20 light years beyond any other MMO.

Well that's a bit worrying, sounds like some negative reviews are coming.

Day one review tend to over rate games.... I'm pretty sure FF13 was amazing after playing 50 boring hours too bad I never stuck around to found out.

I'm pretty sure Destiny will receive a score in the mid 80s or low 90s. Which I will pick up one day since I enjoy FPS & MMO.

and this is part of the reason why i will likely wait until Friday to pick up Destiny

i really dont see how this can be reviewed on day one. kinda reminds me of gt6 reviews such a huge game yet fanboy reviewers are keep to spit thier bottoms out to get a score down

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...
