Forums - Gaming - Why are games so boring now-a-days?

Okay, so, I have a lot of PS3 games....  I pick them up during flash sales, sales, whatever.  The only thing about it is that I keep going back to one of three games....  Marvel Vs. Capcom: Origins, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, or Tekken Tag Tournament 2.  My game collection consists of over 100+ games and I'm bored with all of them.  Even recent stuff I just bought.

I recently bought Megaman X4, Bully, Manhunt, and The Warriors this past Tuesday..  I haven't touched any of them except Manhunt (which I found boring) and Megaman X4.  Megaman X4 isn't boring at all, but it doesn't hold my attention....

Before that, I got Bioshock: Infinite...  I played through the game, it's holding my attention, which is a very good thing, considering I hate first person shooters.

Before that, I got BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma...  I played it for about 2 weeks, and haven't touched it since...

Then, I have games like LA Noire, and Dragon Age: Origins...  Both are installed on my hard drive, but I'm never in the mood to play them.  I bought those games months ago along with Red Dead Redemption and Soul Calibur V.

I hate Soul Calibur V.. I had no idea how bad of a game it was until I bought it.  And, that game, has gotten more playtime, than all the other games mentioned combined, except for the first 3, and bioshock, of course.

So, I decided to get Soul Calibur II: HD a couple of weeks after V disappointed me, since I knew SCII was a good game...  Even still..  I'm not playing that game either anymore.  I also picked up Dead or Alive 5: Ultimate..  It's so mash-friendly that I'm having trouble getting into it.  I don't play the game enough to know what I'm doing, so when I start winning without an idea of what I'm doing, it just gets disappointing.  Then, when I lose, I'm still bored, because I don't know what's going on.

I also got a buch of RPG games recently, from Legend of Dragoon and Wild Arms 2 (already had WA1) Disgea, Persona 3, and Ni No Kuni.  Each one of those games too... I'm not playing anymore, because I'm just not in the mood for any of them.

I'm sick of Marvel and Tekken being the only games I can enjoy, but everything else just doesn't hold my attention..  Am I just getting bored with games in general?  Should I just give up?

I almost want to ask for a recommendation, but somehow, I think I'd just get bored with any suggestions within the first couple of minutes.

You sound like me in that I only used to use Playstation consoles for Fighting games. The only PS2 game I had which was not a fighting game was Maximo.

Nowadays the most popular games are shooters (first or third person), and open world games.

Creating games has become so expensive that less games are created per year, and the developers have to take less risks with creativity to make sure the game will be successful. And also, because of the great power of the consoles the temptation of making like a movie exists.

What kinds of games do you like? I pretty much only play platformers, fighting games, turn based strategy and turn based rpgs.

You sound like a Nintendo gamer. More specifically, you sound like a 3DS gamer.

I'm 32. I've been gaming since 1987 or so. I've never once taken a break.

I still love gaming as much today as I did back then.

I will play anything as long as it's not a sports game, or FPS.  I like fighting games most of all, though.  I don't only use playstation consoles for figting games, I only use playstation consoles period.  I remember playing BlazBlue Calamity Trigger years ago on 360....  So much unintentional jumping and failure to do moves, combos, etc.  Same thing with MK9 and Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown.  Fighting games just aren't playable on 360, unless you have an arcade stick, which I don't use anyway.

I have enough trouble doing hypers in Marvel Vs. Capcom on PS3, that game has never been forgiving with controls.  At least it's easier in MvC2.  I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to pull of certain combos on 360, on that pad with my thumb sliding all over the place and sometimes off the disc entirely.

My thing with RPG games is that they just take too much time to play.  I've never actually finished any of them that I've ever played in my life.  I either get stuck, or just give up.  Oh, wait, no... I take that back, I beat Xenosaga I, on PS2.  That's the only one, though.  I really don't care if it's turn based, or something closer to Kingdom hearts, or anything in between.  An RPG is an RPG to me.

Most games aren't boring. Maybe you played games too much

Same here, but I'm 28 and have been gaming since 89 or earlier, but started with real video gam systems in 1992 or 1993, as well as certain games on PC like Prince of Persia & that game you play as a yellow submarine shooting fireballs, and moviing 8 different directions while underwater surviving monsters, fun game.

Started wi NES as my favorite, then played both Sega Genesis & Super Nintendo and Sega became my favorite, then N64 my favorite then Sega Dreamcast follow by PS2 afterwards as new favortie, with GameCube as my 2nd favorite at the time, and then only a fan of DS, and not that much during the 8th Gen, but now big fans of all, excluding PS Vita. 3DS is my current favorite follow by Wii U as my 2nd favorite. I like Japanese games more then western games still, but I do love the hell out of some western games.

I'm feeling like that lately too, so I'm taking a break from gaming until Bayonetta 2 comes out, maybe some Mario Kart now and then, but that's it. Also, the games I actually want to play will come out only in 2015, so... yeah =P

You sir have the gaming blues, i think you need to take a break from gaming and come back to it at a later date. I've had this issue multiple times and a good break always reinvigorates my passion for gaming.

or you can give velocity 2x a go, that game is so much fun !

I was in this same rut. Go play retro games, I mean good retro games. Then come back and play newer games that are critically acclaimed then play a shitty game. Now you can appreciate the hit and miss nature of the current state of gaming.
