Square Considers Localizing Rocket Slime, Talks Series Demographics

In a recent interview, Dragon Quest producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto talked about the possibility of localizing more Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime games for the west. Interestingly enough, the producer noted that although the target demographic for the title was 8-10 year-olds, the average age of of a Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime gamer in North America was closer to 25.

“You know, it’s funny, when we made Rocket Slime, we were targeting the game towards 8, 9, and 10-year-olds in Japan—but in the west, the average age of the person who bought Rocket Slime was 25! It seems like the grown-ups enjoyed the game and we were pleasantly surprised. In terms of the Rocket Slime game… in Japan, there wasn’t a lot of feedback saying they wanted iteration, but in the western regions, especially North America, there are a lot of requests to see another Rocket Slime game. We’re curious to know, there are a lot of joking elements in it; did you enjoy the humor and the joke elements in it?

In Japan, we actually have a total of three titles in the Rocket Slime series. The western version was the second game. Compared to, say, a game like Dragon Quest VII, it’s less text to translate, so that’s not an impossible amount… so if [Rocket Slime 1] or [Rocket Slime 2] might be a great candidate…?

Would you like to see another Rocket Slime game localized in the States? Have you purchased the previous entry in the franchise? We would love to hear your thoughts below!

he mentions DQ7 3DS... I wonder if hes hinting that its being translated... I'd love SE again if they released it here ;-;

How about spending 100 bucks on a fan who will localize it for you AND port it to all platforms.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

This company man... just get xseed to do it if you guys are that lazy... Like come on, bravely default sold well in the west so dragon quest might do the same as well

They already talked about that. Said it wouldn't sell enough to justify localization. Hope they do it anyway.

Screw Dragon Quest VII, let's localise Rocket Slime instead because that's totally what fans are waiting for!

Dragon Quest has a history of not selling particularly well in the West. However, I do think that things were looking up with DQ9 but Square didn't capitalize on it.

OT: Never played a Rocket Slime game before but I'd be more than happy to try out. I also would love a localization of DQ7 3DS but I do have the original PS1 version so it's no biggie ;)
