I wonder:
a) How many people will get upset, and how long they will remain upset?
b) Will the fanbase be more willing to question N's moves in the future?

I am actually seing a lot of excited people about this over the internet. There is some hate though.

True, there are a lot of those that support it. I was just saying that this is the first time i see N fanbase fragmented into opposing factions...

At least twice. I know tons that bought the XL after it came out (and to think I was going to do the same).

How do you know that? There is only 1 game that is exclusive until now.

For all we know Nintendo won't ignore a 40M userbase, unless they really can't put the game there .

Pretty sure they said that Xenoblade was just one of many new 3DS exclusives on the way.

I won't be buying the next handheld intill 3 years in for now on.

I agree with this, for many this would be the third 3ds they would buy (maybe 4th if they bought the 2ds).

They can make as many iterations as they want, but locking out previous owners from new titles is just plain wrong. Nintendo fans may support it but I dount the market will.

I cannot imagine being a non gaming parent and trying to make sense of 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, New 3DS, New 3DS XL.

I don't care so much about the new 3DS itself. However, I am frustrated that Nintendo is splitting the user-base into two sections, and creating exclusive content for this new version. I will no longer be purchasing Nintendo portables within the first few years for new machines, that's for sure.

I expect lots of angry parents when kids say their new game "doesn't work" on their 3DS and being explained they have to buy the "NEW" version of the system.

it is a 3DS, with some upgrades nothing more. You can play all 3ds games on all 3ds family consoles, and on this new 3DS you can play wii games too, it is a fantastic idea, play xenoblade on the go sounds fantastic.
