if they're unhappy with the games they did not get, they should DDoS the developers instead *cough*squarenix*cough*

I know I will get plwnty of people that say thats wrong, but think about it for a min let it sink in, sony did not force the update they had to ask the consumer to do so. It was all or none, the heads would not allow knowing hacked systems with out trying to prevent those exploited systems to be "ok let them all on knowing full well they have or could have an exploited system" sony did they only thing they could have done, remove the threat at the base point no ps3 slim shipped with the native ability to load other os, and than gave the consumer the option to keep the Linux but not running on the network. They could say yeah patch the kernel, but would hackers do so?

Law of prudence, what would a prudent man do?

You are right....Sony did not require you to upgrade to the latest firmware.  However, Sony had a number of DRM restrictions that would essentially force you to upgrade.

1.) It will be impossible to play PS3 games online.

2.) It will be impossible to play new PS3 games

3.) It will be impossible to watch new Blu-ray movies

4.) New Blu-ray discs could even disable the Blu-ray drive entirely if they contain an AACS Host Revocation LIst that affects the old firmware version.

5.) Videos on DTCP-IP media servers will be disabled.

Again the asking of to fix the kernel exploit! What you stated is correct but the key was asking the hackers ro fix the exploit was futile, they were not going to fix a problem they were happy was there, thats like asking a hackers to fix a xploit for good, and you think they would do that? It was a all or nothing because it was a kernel level exploit was it fixable. Yes , but would hackers want it fixed, no!

ps:

Proud psOne/2/3/p owner.  I survived Aplcalyps3 and all I got was this lousy Signature.

So yeah as the title says, at the end of it all there just annoying other gamers and what do they actually want, because a year down the line when this has been fixed and forgotten, if someone mentions their groups name the first thing I will think of is "the dicks who stopped me playing on games" rather than anything else (if there trying to make a name for themselves that is)  I just don't understand why they do it, can someone explain what their goal is, who are they fighting for?

Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Just to clarify here...Nothing was hacked. These were simply DDoS attacks according to all the news I have read. Nothing was compromised. These are hugely common.

But, what it seems to me is that, if we presume that Lizard Squad are idiots and they are taking credit for what another hacker called FamedGod has been doing and if what he is saying is true, then the point he is trying to make is that the Security Measures that Sony took after the hack of 2011 was minimal and he hacked PSN to prove his point. It still sucks but I can kinda understand where he is coming from if this is an issue (if its true that is)

That guy is a notorious fake. :P

Furthermore, the security measures Sony put in place after 2011 are absolutely cutting edge.

What is happening today is not a hack at all, and calling these kids "hackers" is really an abuse of the term. It's just a DDOS attack, which is something an organised group can do to simulate incredible traffic in order to take down any service. The same people took down Blizzard and a bunch of Twitch streamers yesterday.

And they made a bomb threat to the SOE president's plane.

you clearly chose the right day to make that statement...

Yes, I did. Absolutely zero security was breached.

A DDOS attack can be done to ANY online service. With enough power, you can DDOS Google or the US government. It has nothing to do with security.

None of those things Justify what the hackers did. Why don't they hack EA servers instead? they do the same things but even worse.

Yup, PSN hasn't been hacked since. Do you know the difference between a DDoS and a hack? A DDoS can bring down everyone if the attack is large enough.
