Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Is Working Towards “a Future Where Consoles Could Disappear” as it Tackles Cloud Gaming

This isn't happening anytime soon if at all. There are waaaay too many network problems plaguing this industry, especially after MS tried to force this future upon the gamers prematurely.

And there are plenty people out there that still think physical copy superior since it gives them the opportunity to sell it to buy other games or lend it to friends.

Give it 8-10 years.

The early days of Netflix streaming had a lot of issues too, right now this is just taking its baby steps, but the bottom line is the technology does seem to work more or less even today.

we are physical beings so make everything physical.

$60/game model I think is the one more likely to crash.

While I do like physical media, at the same time, gaming probably would be a lot cheaper if you cut out retail margins/physical manufacturing from the process.

It would allow devs to sell games for $20 cheaper ($30-$40 standard) probably on average and still make the same or an even higher profit margin.

Gaming is dead to me when something like this happens.

It will happen soon. Sony will still make games though so what's the problem?

No, not soon. People weren't even on board with a console that needed to be always online.

I don't support digital games at all.

If physical games dissapear then I will not support any "system" or company that does it.

I know for a fact im not alone on this.

New study said 92% of PC Games are now purchased digitally.  So its a given that its likely going to happen with console also. If we get the DEALS that GoG and Steam offer.. I am all for it..

Don't see why this would stop a "gamer" from gaming. Its about the GAME isn't it? Not where it comes from....

You will be when physical games media dies. No ones going to stop them selves from playing Uncharted 6 because "there's no physical copy" but hipsters.

They're still "imagining" it as he put it himself lol

Yup in a lot of ways its hard to deny the STEAM model isn't better than the old 1980s console model.

To be honest collecting disc based games lost a lot of the charm of cartridge based games anyway. Especially nowadays where the cases are made of the flimsiest plastic possible and lack manuals most of the time too. It's just pretty much literally a disc, big whoop.
