Lets look at other big Wii U exclusives FW Japan. According VGChartz.

Pikmin 3- 96k
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD- 31k
Wii Party U- 76k
Super Mario 3D World- 102k
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze- 38k
Mario Kart 8- 334k

Hyrule Warriors- 64k (based on the 69k and 79k)

See its not that bad. If you take off Mario Kart 8, it looks very good
Btw i was expecting 25k Wii U sales but 18k is good

Of all of the above titles Hyrule W seems like the one that would be the most front loaded, obviously time may prove otherwise...

This list kinda reaffirms that most of Nintendo's first party titles flopped in Japan this era.

WHAT????!!!

Maybe not most but a fair portion of the games that were supposed to support the system fell short (not neccesarily 1st party). Bar Wii Party U, only games with Mario in the title really performed well.

Wonderful 101; 50k Flop
Zelda Wind Waker HD; 100k flop
Donkey Kong; 110k flop
Pikmin 3; 250k decent
Hyrule Warriors; Weak Openning (likely will flop)

For a flagship title, anything less than 200k is a flop in my eyes.

So not in this era, just in the Wii U, a bad selling system. 3DS titles are doing superb, and i believe from now on Wii U games will be a successs too.

At the time I thought ~100k for HW would be pretty decent, but apparently it couldn't even manage to reach that!

I actually expected it to do a good bit better than 20K since it was a next notable release, but hey it didn't happen. :/

To be honest they probably wouldn't consider it the a LoZ U game yet so I guess they're still waiting for that. Though for some reason Wii U hasn't gotten such good hardware boosts in Japan this year other than possible huge ones this holiday season.

I guess era is the wrong word, but I originally read his comment as this generation.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Looks like there is no Monster Hunter audience on the Vita. Capcom was right to put MH4 on the 3DS.

are you serious?

I was refering to this era of their home consoles and I really don't think its simply down to the Wii U's numbers, the even bigger contrast between its big sellers (The mario games) and everything else is evidence of that. If anything the selection of titles is the reason the hardware isn't selling, not the otherway round. But of course its a bit of both. Nintendo seem to have a much better grasp of what works on the 3DS as opposed to the Wii U.

For me its a question of what gets greenlit and why. I still think they were niave in putting DK as a priority title, it never pegged me as a system seller and we all know the early years of a system are the most important.

Good :)!!!

OMG, Dengeki is already up!  Now I have nothing left to teach :'(

SAO is high on Dengeki.  Looks like the Hyrule Warriors number was inflated for whatever reason on Famitsu.
