I can't help but think of this:
If developing big-budget games is so risky, expensive, and, as we've seen over the past two generations, financially ruinous, then why not stop doing it?

How about games that the fans want? Like megaman and a non shitty banjo and a FF thats nothing like XIII.
PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850
Welp, LoL and Dota2 are ridiculously successful. Dota2's f2p with microtransactions only affecting cosmetics is something console games can learn from.
CoD took notice and implemented it and its very popular. But the game is still $60. But it will still sell 20+ million every installment >.>

Those ads are always a middle-aged couple shot from the back, holding hands looking at the sunset over the ocean.
Overdrive -- well, you know...

Ads on the loading screen for Skyrim on PS3. Would've made Bethesda more money than the game itself.

i would only be ok with ads in games if they made sense in the game. like fh2 having billboards along the roads

That's always been done. They need to do more!
Well he is definitely right but that search for new revenue has been going on for quite some time. Now we have a bunch of DLC, microtransactions and subscriptions. If that is still not enough I wonder what will com next.
We wouldn't have this problem if all the self proclaimed gamers would buy more games.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
So more DLC, transactions or closed systems like how they wanted the X1 to be? Or kinda like mobile gaming with the freemium crap? No, Microsoft, Gaming is doing fine. We don't need you or the likes of you to fuck it up further. The whole online subscription model was also something they "invented'' thanks a bunch.

No it isn't. Development and marketing costs are very high now. Why do you think more studios are going out of business more than ever before?
