you kinda answered your own thread. Both consoles weren't capable of running full HD rez last gen so people fought and bickered about other things like frame consistency, gamma levels, texture detail...etc.

Now, the consoles should at least be able to handle 1080p resolutions. And there is no question about it, an image at a higher rez looks clearer than one at a lower rez. So in addition to all the things we bitched about befofre, we now also bitch about rez. Seems fair if you ask me.

So what I am trying to point out is the fact that you can't call out people who say they don't care about resolution with the sarcastic line "it only doesn't matter now that its in the playstation's favor". It didn't matter before. It was barely part of the conversation before. And resolution is very different beast from the other problems that plagued PS3 multiplats last gen. The issues are not interchangeable.

Your right.  PS3's multiplat problems were negligable compared to the problems the Xbox One is having.

Well I've never cared about resolution (hell I only have a 720p tv), but I remenber debating over game quality last gen. But it was only due to Sony constantly bragging about the power of the Cell and camparing the 360 to an xbox 1.5 and saying the ps3 was more like 3.5 while in fact almost every multiplat showed better quality on the Microsoft platform.

with statements like these http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=485754 it was only natural for the Xbox fans to show proof that their console of choice was much more capable than Sony wanted you to beleive.

This gen Microsoft is congratulating Sony over the ps4 and the resolution wars is raging more than ever. It's not for the same reason but it still does not show a genuine care about the difference in graphics IMO.

Personally, I'm fine with 720p.

It bugged me when games went sub-720p. Which seems to happen regularly now on 7th gen.

Honestly, I owned both a 360 and PS3 and barely ever noticed a difference in performance. The only thing that really bothered me were the PS3's insufferable load times. That being said, the difference between the PS4 and XBOne is actually noticeable, especially when it comes to things like frame rate and loading / installation times. The XBOne really feels underpowered to me, especially for its asking price.

X1 is only a $150 more expensive than a 360 or PS3 with a HDD.

The X1 is still a pretty decent machine for the asking price. The PS4 is just a more powerful machine at the same price.

However, the X1 now includes bundled games at $399. That helps add value if you have genuine interest in the bundled game.

Just use Google.

The ps3 did have some advantages in other areas to compensate, sometimes better shadows, no black crush, or lighting said to be closer to the look of the pc version. It did have other disadvantages as well, long install times, less consistent frame rate, less detail.

Anyway seems you're rewriting history.
Resolution is the most noticeable this gen because the difference is much bigger, especially when one hits native display resolution and the other upscales.

It is not noticable for me. I suppose if I played the same game side by side on identical tvs I might notice some difference, but on its own its not very noticable. On paper it is a huge difference but in reality it is not easy to percieve. huge fps discrepencies and missing graphical effects/details on the other hand are very obvious, but most people focus on resolution now a days.

I don't own an X1 so I can't say with any certainty but the conversation has been so monopolized by the resolution discussion that it would seem that resolution is the only major difference between X1 versions and PS4 versions. I think there was one game I heard about where the framerate on the X1 was much worse than the PS4. If only the resolution is different this gen then that I do not consider that as big a difference from last gen where some of the PS3 multiplats were downright sloppy... it wasn't always just graphics either. There were ps3 games that just didn't play well, were buggy or had online issues that were non-existant on the Xbox. The conversations I remember were usually more about that than resolution.

Not much of a problem this gen either. Most games run 1080p just fine, and those that don't still look great. Very little difference IRL.

The main difference is in exclusive titles, where the PS4's power will be more apparent, but for multiplatforms reolutiongate has been waaaay overblown.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Last gen the consoles were a lot closer and it was still a big deal. Where do you think th rhetoric that the PS3 is actually stronger despite the worse looking games came from?
