The ps3 did have some advantages in other areas to compensate, sometimes better shadows, no black crush, or lighting said to be closer to the look of the pc version. It did have other disadvantages as well, long install times, less consistent frame rate, less detail.

Anyway seems you're rewriting history.
Resolution is the most noticeable this gen because the difference is much bigger, especially when one hits native display resolution and the other upscales.
