Never been of fan of the genre so I'm not happy about it.

Why ? You're not happy that the fans of the genre get games they like ?

No. But we could see more of them and less of any other type of game.

..or am i crazy?   it just feels like there have been as much horror games out/announced this year than in the entire last gen.  sometimes i have a hard defining "horror" from mere "action" but i took a look at a few lists from the internet and compiled this:

Last gen:

dead space
resident evil
alan wake
condemned
the last of us
metro
siren blood curse
the darkness
the walking dead
silent hill

this year:

until dawn
silent hills (P.T.)
the vanishing of ethan carter
alien isolation
daylight
dayZ
the evil within
grave

yo?

I know Last of us was last year for most people, but people like me just played it the last two weeks, the remastered, and it belongs on that list. remastered or not.

You shouldn't worry about that.

Just look at the games announced these past 2 years. There are Horror games for sure, but the majority of them aren't.

Lol. How could you forget the only 2 actual horror games from last gen? Namely Amnesia and Outlast.

True, but these were indie.

It's been a while since we've actually had a "big" horror game, with retail release and all...

Now, right at the beginning of this gen, we have The Evil Within, Alien Isolation, Until Dawn, Silent Hills annouced. That's quite a lot in such a short period of time.

I would regard horror as one of the few genres that doesn't need a big budget.

They just need decent graphics, great direction and good level design. Nothing for which you need a big budget. And as we've seen, AAA horror games tend to be more about the spectacle and story, rather than actual horror. It almost seems that it's harder to make a good horror game, the higher the budget is.

I completely agree, but I'm just saying it's nice to see the genre is getting the attention of bigger names once again.

Shinji Mikami, Kojima, Del Toro (and I secretly hope Yamaoka will be back as well)...

But true, the higher the budget, the higher the target sales, the wider the target audience. It's quite tricky to find a good balance.

Until Dawn is sounding a lot like Heavy Rain in terms of choices & how they impact the end of the game. If that's the case then I'm on board the hype train!

The story interactivity of Heavy Rain in an actual Survival Horror ? Count me in.
