Forums - Gaming - So,.. the horror genre is back?

..or am i crazy?   it just feels like there have been as much horror games out/announced this year than in the entire last gen.  sometimes i have a hard defining "horror" from mere "action" but i took a look at a few lists from the internet and compiled this:

Last gen:

dead space
resident evil
alan wake
condemned
the last of us
metro
siren blood curse
the darkness
the walking dead
silent hill

this year:

until dawn
silent hills (P.T.)
the vanishing of ethan carter
alien isolation
daylight
dayZ
the evil within
grave

yo?

Why didn't you mention Silent Hill last gen :(

The Last of US, Metro and the Walking Dead aren't horror. They are thrilling though and TLOU has a lot of scary elements. Resident Evil and Dead Space became action games.

So I think with Until Dawn and Silent Hills and few other games it might be better in the upcoming 12 months than the whole previous gen

Stories unfolded with my home made rap songs. Feel free to listen here with lyrics: https://youtu.be/vyT9PbK5_T0

Isn't the new Fatal Frame launching this year in Japan at least?

And I hope that the ones coming sell very well to ensure more games in the future

I think that a lot of the Zombie type titles have reenergized the horror arena.

It is near the end of the end....

Fatal Frame, Alien Isolation, Until Dawn, The Evil Within and Silent Hill got me sold.
I'm really hyped.

But I have to say I'm not sure TLOU could be considered a Horror game.

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

Definitely looks like a new push in that direction is happening right now.

RPGs (including old school ones) and Horror games are very popular, it seems.

Just like old times...
