Forums - Gaming Discussion - Spencer: "The battle is really September, October, November, and December."

And what will the excuse be after this holiday season? The battle is NEXT September, October etc etc?

The unfortunate fact is that the trends displayed in the rest of the year will carry over to the holiday season, so his argument is just stalling for time. There's nothing they've announced that can reverse the already established trend, so discounting the rest of the year as not important is misguided. You don't just wipe the slate clean when you get to the important months.

I don't disagree with his sentiment overall here though, which is that he and the Xbox team are still battling for first place, which they should be and is the right message to send to their customers.

His point is that those are the months where console sales sky rocket.  He believes the XBO will sell much better in those months and it will.  Consoles always sell more in those months.  Console sales numbers before then are almost useless.

"They beat us in June. They beat us in May," Spencer added. "These months are small if you look at the sales. I think the whole month of June is about one week in November. They're winning, and they'll do their PR around it, and that makes sense. The battle is really September, October, November, and December."

Aaaand...they beat you in April, and March, and February, and January.

But they also beat you in January, February, March, April, and will also likely beat you in July. Not to mention the near dominance of PS4 outside US. Of course the sales volume for the second half is larger than the first half but based on what evidence can we suggest any change of course in favor of xb1?

The kinect has been shred, the price has been dropped, all malicious policies have been left out, most ps4-esque features have been implemented, several pressing exclusives have been released but ps4 is still wining in the home territory. I believe "catching up in homeland" will be the more appropriate word rather than winning, especially when the top ps4 exclusives are about to be released in the last quarter of 2014.

As I had said numerous times already, XB1 can only hope to sell half as much worldwide and 45% versus PS4 55% market share in US, and that's being optimistic. That's not magic just logical statistics and sound estimate.

Playstation 5 vs XBox Series Market Share Estimates

Regional Analysis  (only MS and Sony Consoles)
Europe     => XB1 : 23-24 % vs PS4 : 76-77%
N. America => XB1 :  49-52% vs PS4 : 48-51%
Global     => XB1 :  32-34% vs PS4 : 66-68%

That is only true when concenred with monthly sales.

When concerning LTD, everything matters.

It will be hard to for XB1 to sell even half its global gap more than the PS4, especially when that system is currently the most popular.

In the U.S the gap is much closer about 700k-1mill but even then the PS4 would have to do significantly worse, and I don't think Sony is going to let supply issues hit them again.

WHat makes you think they won't lose October, Nov or Dec? Or are you just talking about in the US?

I will have to disagree I never really consider Sept-Dec a "battleground" because every System gets a larger percentage increase because of the big AAA 1st and 3rd party titles along with the the usual holiday(s) season

I always think the real battle lies between Jan-Aug to see which console has the actual momentum to be sustained during those moths without the need of a holiday boost; which at the moment seems to be the PS4 and I think is going to put up some amazing numbers and hopefully Sony can keep up with demand.

i think what he mean is Halo: MCC and COD:AW bundle + earlier DLC will definitely help XB1 to outsell PS4 this holiday...

ofc i just talk about us

woldwide would be nuts.

thought it was ovious.

worldwide they only could win september and november. but both will be very unlikely

200-300k bump form tier2 for the whole month is not enought to beat normal ps4 gap + the white bundle destiny bump

and blackfriday sales + cod bundle + halo mcc is probably not enough to beat ps4 worldwide pre christmas sales

okay just for u. this would be my worldwide:

they will lose July for sure
they will lose August for sure
they will lose September possibly
they will lose October for sure
they will lose November probably
they will lose December for sure

Ahhhh okay got you. I think it will be closer those months in the US for sure with the XB1 MAYBE winning Nov or Dec but that is it IMO.
