Well, it´s a rant. It´s not well thought nor structured nor coherent.

sometimes he does that, but I think he makes perfect sense...besides it is a rant, it is never meant to be well structured nor very coherent because it is mostly fueled by passion not reason.

Thats really all kinds of stupid if you ask me. Then again, I can see MS having paid $30M up front for this exclusive deal and waving off all royalty fees on the game for the duration of the exclusive deal. Its all good, just means I buy it in 2016 sometime, but since they have started this... it will be the first used game (and physical copy game for that matter) I buy for my PS4. unless they release it on PSN for under or around $30 (which won't happen cause then the PR spin wil be we wanted to take the time to make the best version of this game and we are hapy to announce that its coming to PS4 with all dlc included, this new game mode and bla bla bla.... so yh, $50) |
Also, what I think people forget is that fans can hold a grudge against you that can affect your entire company. Did you see the reaction Japanese fans had when FF 13 was announced for xb360 year(s?) after the ps3 version came out? There's a thing called loyalty which they don't seem to understand. If SE gets a bad rep, MS' money won't be enough to cover the rest of the losses from other games that people won't buy because they lost respect for your company.
I don't buy used games, but I don't see myself buying a new copy of a SE game any time soon.

Wow, its like these people haven't seen an exclusive third party game before...

Exactly... there is a thing called loyalty. Publishers and some gamers seem to not get this concept. But it holds through in particular to the kinda expressive medium gaming is. Games like Minecraft or the sims will not hold any fan loyalty. But chracter based games, games that gamers somewhere have posters of such chracters up on their walls in their room would. Its like how a movie can flop simply cause they casted the wrong person to play a role that already has a following... or better put, imagine hollywood made a superman movie and he was a blond with a yellow costume lol.
Yeah, the letter was bullshit. Personally, as someone with little interest in Tomb Raider, as I uninstalled the last one after I got sick of the QTE-fest, that letter took me from relative apathy to being pissed off that they would lie directly to the consumer like that.
I mean, damn, we know this is about money. Fine, whatever, just don't insult our intelligence by saying your doing this so that Tomb Raider can reach a wider audience. Telling obvious lies does NOT improve your image.

Joe can calm down now, phil spencer confirmed its a time exclusive.
It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

When and if this game comes over to PS4 (assuming this is timed exclusivity), don't buy the game. Boycott. |
Probably wasn't going to get the game anyways. I'll expect that there will be many more games to play by the time TR does come out.

There is no use and no reason to rant about PR speak. It has existed since the beginning of time and it will not go away. Honesty will not win you fans.
Do you think the reception of the deal would've been better if they said: "thanks to the money we received from MS we don't have to develop for another console!"?
No. Companies always lie. They have to because everyone else does it too. If they don't, the fall behind the liars.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
