Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rise of the Tomb Raider Timed Exclusive for Xbox

not really a big deal here even for PS only fans and TR only on PS fans since next holiday season we should get Uncharted 4 and judging by the wording i wouldnt be surprised when this gets released on PS4 and PC in 2016... i know i aint gonna run out holiday 2015 to get a XB1 to play this

i dont really get the idea here either TR on Xb1 only aint gonna move alot of SW and it sure as hell aint gonna move alot of HW its almost the same deal with RE4 and RERemake RE4 moved alot of SW on the PS2 despite it bieng at the time a GC exclusive and inferior on the PS2. the same will also happen to RERemake it will sell more on PS4 then GC even though it releases over 10 yrs later

MS would of been better off getting COD timed or full game or GTA DlC exclusiveness if they wanted to move HW

Wow just got off of work and I see this! Complete meltdowns! Well I would like to give my opinion on it.

I don't think it was very smart to upset fans that pretty much made TR a household name for money. Then at the same time, this is a great move by Microsoft. They sure do know how to make those NDA's very hush hush! Even when PS did their exclusive deals, they didn't say it wasn't coming to other consoles. Still, it's a great move for Xbox nonetheless. However, now SE will have to deal with the backlash if it doesn't come to PS and/or PC.

I have to say that I didn't like that SE attempted to butter up PS/PC fans by saying the arcade title is coming to those said platforms. Guess what...it's coming to Xbox too! So that means nothing. Now here's the dumbest response I've heard in a month now. Tomb Raider: Definitive version is available on PS4! Well it's also available on Xbox 1. Tell me how this is a plus for PS/PC fans?! Dude probably should have kept his mouth close with those 2 irrelevant statements. We already know that "arcade" game is coming to other platforms and gamers already have the other games. We don't need you to tell us the PS4 version of TR is available. We have it!

This isn't me jumping on SE per se. It's more of me knocking down the PR statement they gave to soothe PC/PS gamers. Sometimes it's best not to say anything at all and let the fans calm down a bit. Well I hope it does well for Crystal Dynamics and the Xbox community. No need in shooting something down because it's not on the preferred console of choice.

I agree with you on all points except where you say that this is somehow a good move by MS.  I think the negativity will outweigh any benefit they see.  It IS great for Xbox fans who have already invested in an XB1...everyone else?  Not so much.  Tomb Raider is not going to move hardware.  ESPECIALLY when it is going up against a similar game on the PS4 launching near the same time (Uncharted)!

You are right about the comments though...saying "we have a game for you...it's the crappy arcade title" sounds WAY too close to "we have a console for offline gamers, it's called the 360"!  Same with "be happy with the old game we just re-did for you".  Yes, he most certainly should have just shut up a few sentences back.

I know its hard for fan boys to wrap there heads around this but I think you are looking at it all wrong. Does it suck that Tomb Raider is going to be exclusive? Yeah I guess it does for those who don't have more than one system with that one system not being the XB1. However we all remember how Square Enix was talking about the reboot was such a huge under taking and investment that it would need to sell a ridiculous amount to make any money on it. When you check out news.xbox.com you can see that Microsoft is listed as the publisher with just Crystal Dynamics being the Developer and no mention of Square Enix. This would indicate that Square Enix was on the ropes about funding a sequel to the reboot and MIcrosoft came along and made it an easy decision for them by covering all the up front costs and over head. This is less about Microsoft killing Tomb Raider and more about how it might actually be saving the series.

Actually, it's already been found that the listing of Microsoft as "publisher" was in error.  No matter how you want to spin this, it's NOT good news for gamers.  It's good for XB1 owners, that's it.  It's not going to move hardware, it's not going to change the (failing) trajectory of the XB1...it's just a dick move by a company with more money than talent.

Angry Joe making an angry rant over it.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Its always money, Naughty Dog being an exclusive company to Playstation was about money. Naughty Dog has been around since the earliest days of Video game before Sony was ever a player. In the end its always about money. I have yet to find anything about Microsoft not being the publisher? Where did you see that? An exclusive is an exclusive, one exclusive is just as good as another. The series doesn't make it better or worse.

I wouldn't even say it's good news for Xbone owner's, it's not like they weren't getting the game to begin with.

I highly doubt the game was 'saved' from not being made too. The relaunch of TR was expensive but with the total sales over the 3 platforms it was on and the extra remastered versions on Xbone and PS4 it supposedly now turned a profit. From there, resources would be reused, they don't have to developer a new engine  or anything, just make a sequal. What MS has probably done is paid for development (mostly) so SE have fewer concerns over needing to make a profit, it they have already made most of it back.

Hmm, pie.

I don't get the MS hate. They paid some money and got an exclusive. Cool for them.

Now, Square Enix on te other hand, wtf bro? I'm playing through TR on my PS4 right now and I'm enjoying it. I guess this is my last go with Lara.

Now that point of view I can 100% understand.

You can't fault MS for this. They are simply doing anything they can to help expand their brand / userbase. Now Square Enix on the other hand they are the ones who have the control of the IP and it was THEIR CHOICE to make it exlusive. Obviously given the chance MS was all over it.

There is no way MS didn't pursue. They gave Square an offer they couldnt refuse. MS got SE to take exclusivity away from Sony for their games and then got exclusivity of a franchise Sony essentially built. Cant blame fans for being pissed.
