Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rise of the Tomb Raider Timed Exclusive for Xbox

Every gaming site is in full meltdown mode. This is nothing if not entertaining.

Good move from Microsoft (for Xbox One owners at lest). Being one of them, I could not complain :)

It changes nothing for Xbox One owners. Or do you think they are happy that Playstation is not getting a version?

Tomb Raider has been on PS since the beginning seeing this is just sad, and the worst (maybe best?) part is that you never know with Xbox if their exclusives are real or not... they always say: "ITS EXLCUSIVE!" "ONLY ON XBOX" then you see the game come out on PS and/or PC a year later and some times with extra content only available on those other platforms... just like Ninja Gaiden, Star Ocean, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Tales of Vesperia, Dead Rising, Plants VS Zombies Garden Warfare...

They better not pull this shit with Sleeping Dogs

It´s not like Microsoft put a gun in Square/CD president´s head to close the deal.

It was a bussiness decision. Money was exchanged and contracts were assingned.

So? It was a stupid business decision then.

Not to Square Enix it seems and Microsoft, it seems.

That's what they think. SE is detached from reality anyway and this decision could deal huge lasting damage to the Tomb Raider franchise and possibly even the relationship to PS fans, especially after they haven't gotten the exclusive they were promised 8 freaking years ago, which then went multi and still isn't out, I don't know what MS paid them but it better be a huge amount.

And what is MS expecting this to do? Move consoles? I think they just wasted a ton of cash on this.

Yea this move seems really dumb for MS. Why would they spend money to do this? What's the logic here? A game that sold pooly last year is suddenly going to move consoles? Who is going to buy an X1 a year from now just because of TR? Very silly move but at this point I don't know what MS could throw their money at that would be a good move.

This meltdown is rivalling the FFXIII E3 MS reveal.

This is insane. For those who missed it still calling timed exclusive, MS has now listed themselves as the PUBLISHER on Xbox.com.

Deservedly so. They didn't cancel FFXIII on PS3...

Did I ever say you had an Xbox One? I remember you almost switching camps, to Playstation's side, before this gen started but it looks like that didn't work out.

It's a "legit" way but it's a shitty practice to cancel versions already announced and being worked on, especially when PS has been home for Tomb Raider for decades.

Anyway, don't you want to bet it's timed?

"Switching camps"? What? There is no "switching camps"... I played a lot on PS years ago, I still do it from time to time (on an emulator). As well as I play old gems on Snes, Genesis and so on. There is no "switching".

And to bet? What would you have to offer to make it even remotely interesting?

Pride.

And avatar control for a month (and/or sig). Or maybe you have other ideas?

Pride? Pride in what? Being right on a gaming forum that a so called exclusive didn't happen to be an exclusive? Yeah, that will make my self confidence way better, for sure.

Really, there is nothing to get me on betting on this one. We don't know how much MS paid for it being exclusive or timed exclusive but I think it will stay exclusive (and no, this doesn't include PC as I never count that for me). You can of course think different but there is no benefit of betting on it.

Terrible move and I hope it bites them in the ass. I had no interest in the game in the first place but even if I did, I'd still not buy it even if it is released later on on ps4.

This has nothing to do with MS. Just SE making an awful business move.

It's funny to read here, especially when I remember the time the TR reboot was revealed people (not generalizing but many from Sony side did it) hated on it, looking like Uncharted and uninspired. When it was released many of these people said it was ok but nothing ground breaking and where criticizing it for not being their beloved TR anymore.
Now it is moving on to another platform where a lot of people (including me, having played 1-4 of the old TRs) liked it the way it is.
Sometimes it seems people just search for opportunities to hate on MS. This topic will stay for weeks, months and the moneyhatting itself for years. I guess this will be the top spot on N4G for days to come.

I disagree on that bolded part. Tomb Raider had fantastic word of mouth and many people, myself included, see it as being an improvement on the Uncharted formula.

This whole thing has nothing to do with hating on Microsoft. Its more to do with pointing out just how idiotic someone at Square Enix must be to sign this deal when the first TR game struggled to make money on a userbase of over 100 Million consoles.

It had definitely but as usual it also got hated because

1. it wasn't like the old ones (too few tombs to explore many criticized and there is some truth in it)

2. it was a direct competitor to Uncharted. People even argued that it was a clone of Uncharted while others insisted Uncharted wouldn't exist without the old TR).

I agree with all of number 1 and 2,but I thought it was still a great game. Can't wait for the next one.

You  don't know me as I don't know you and it's better this way. I am not defending it in any way as I hate any moneyhatting - this includes Sony as well. I don't know why you are slightly attacking me but usually people get personal if they don't have any good arguments left...

What huge AAA 3rd party games have Sony moneyhatted?

Read again what I wrote.

I have read what you wrote and from the bolded my question still applied.
