I still dont think the japanese are willing to pay over $300 for any video game console.
Sony needs a price cut, and some major AAA titles to boost sales.
2008 end of year predictions:
PS3: 22M
360: 25M
wii: 40M

You mean lack of wii supply in America.... games having to settle for a PS3....
(Sorry, someone had to say it. Seriously that might have helped in December and maybe +/- a month, but not now...)
I think he meant more like a Blu-Ray victory or something like that. HD-DVD never really even gained any popularity in Japan though, so that didn't really help the PS3 here in JP.

Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

I dont believe its because of the wii. Usually american gamers go to the Xbox 360 if they cannot find a wii.
I say its becuase of blu-ray, PS3 being the cheapest player(one of them) theres no reason why sales should not increase.

@ bigjon
Nope. PS2 fell around 5k some weeks in Japan.
I think a big factor is the lack of BC PS3 available. The 20 and 60 were discontinued, leaving only the 40gb.
The 40gb has done very well in America and Europe, but hasn't done very well in Japan.
Just wait until when Mgs will be pack in with 80gig
Wait, if Sony shrank the Blu-Ray laser diode or whatever, could it affect manufacturing costs? Or is it the player as a whole? The reason I'm saying this is that Sony did say they cannot lower the price of PS3 anytime soon. They just don't have the funds at the moment. But...if they shrank the diode, could/did that affect manufacturing costs awhile back?

lol the next domination date?
Looks like PS3 is dead this week my guess of 30K ha ha ha instead it went down even further 13K this must be the lowest it's been for a while. The Wii really is the king of gaming in Japan and everywhere else - and guess as noted blu-ray victory means nothing in japan where it had allready won the format war last year anyway.
I think the price advantage is less of a factor now the ps3 and 360 have both come down alot since release and not so much more than the Wii.
Wii is Number one by pure innovation in gaming.
Pretty sad Ps3 and X360 are both still trying to outsell each other with stupid FPS games which dont work with thumbstick controllers anyway. The Wii is winning with pure gaming innovation breaking the boundaries of a stagnent games market with new ideas and new customer demographies
and i say good on them.
My only gripe is that Sony are too stupid to realise they could be doing the same thing as nintendo is with the PS3. The only game i have bought for PS3 is TC4 - it's the only one that uses a light gun (which the Wiimote has built in) !.
PS3 number 1 fan
