I imagine that (although it's good) Child of Light is game that people will look back on and wonder why they ever rated it so high.
Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is a good game and I enjoyed it. Never seem more than the sum of it's parts though. Not sure which I enjoyed the most out of that or Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze.
A large chunk of Guacamelee felt too easy for me, when it did get tougher it was mainly the combat that got tougher rather than the platforming (Though there were some tricky platforming moments to find secrets and towards the end). Its metroidvainia structure seemed very linear and unremarkable.
I don't want to pure on the negativity because it is a great game, and being an indie game it's a great accomplishment to rival the likes of DK:TF (Which is also a great game that gets too much praise from some people IMHO). It reminds me of how (At least a few months ago) everyone seemed to think Rayman Legends was one of the greatest platform games of all time. I really liked Rayman Legends but lets not get carried away.
I loved Stick It To The Man more than Guacamelee.
I'd believe that it had highest score among game titles, but this is surprising to me.

Nah, it got hit hard for being a 2D platformer. They don't get enough recognition these days, especially not when they're not indies. |
I thought it got hit hard cause it wasn't Metroid Prime 4.
More on topic, gonna use my digital promotion bonus cash to get Guacamelee.
Not surprising, just a typical score for a good indie game these days
The standards for indie games aren't as strict as they are for full retail games.

How now, I review them with the full scrutiny of any "game"

You would still give Armillo an 8/10 if it was a $60 game developed by EAD Tokyo?

You betcha, though I think you're missing the correlation between production values and game price (generally speaking) by purposely creating a situation that would rarely, if ever, occur. At $60, the game would have better graphics and no framerate issues running at a solid 60 fps: inherent to a higher budget and inherent to a higher cost game. Other than that, the game would remain the same, and earn a higher score based on a more solid graphical presentation and solid framerate.
In other words, I act biased, but I review off how I genuinely feel about the game itself and the core values I structurally lay out, not who made it or what system it's on
