How Much Would You Pay for Wii Fit?

The IGN readers have spoken.

February 26, 2008 - As part of our ongoing poll system on IGN, we tallied the votes of just over 6,000 Wii readers in regards to just how much they'd pay to purchase Wii Fit. Nintendo hasn't given any final price to the product yet, but mentioned that the game would be "under $100" during last week's Game Developers Conference. What is the highest price you would pay? The results are in.

With a total of 6116 people polled, we found that the majority of players wouldn't go above $49.99 for Wii fit, as 27.6% (1692) of the answers fit in the lowest price point available. The next highest amount of readers sat at the $79.99 price point, with another 22.5% (1377). From there the numbers decrease, with 18.9% (1159) going with $69.99, 15.9% (975) weighing in at $59.99, and just 7.4% (457) going with $89.99 and $99.99 respectively.

Take those numbers even further and you find that only 14.8% of readers will purchase the game if it's more than $89.99, leaving the other 85.2% looking elsewhere for their Wii gaming. Of course things change when you add in the casual market and Wii's amazing appeal to the non-gamer, but there's certainly something to be said when less than 15% of game site patrons would purchase Wii Fit for more than $80 bucks. Whether or not Nintendo will pay attention to these trends, however, is anyone's guess.

Wii Fit takes over the world when it releases on May 19, and we'll have continuing coverage up until release.

So he got the simplest part right in the last paragraph, but the second to last was so misleading it was ridiculous.  27.6% is a majority?  Since when?  I'm pretty sure that the 74.2% who are willing to pay above $50 are a majority.  Someone needs to learn the difference between plurality and majority.

Wow, he could have made a chart to make it a little bit easier to understand. I can't even tell who would pay what, except that only 15% of the people polled would pay more than 80 bucks.

Who exactly did they poll? I'm guessing IGN readers are pretty hardcore biased against the Wii and casual gaming in general.

A couple of years ago one of my friends said that Guitar Hero was a "stupid" game and that only an "Idiot" would buy it being how expensive it was; he recently bought the Wii Version on eBay for $125 ...

What elitest gamers on a website say they will pay for a game they haven't played is quite a bit different from what gamers in general will pay to buy a game ...

answer: Bozon is as smart as a brick, as I've said in the past
plus he's responsible for the weapon dropping in Contra 4, the only flaw in the game in my opinion

edit: Note, this last chart is meant to reflect that people prefer to spend less and thus are considered to have voted for every category less than theirs.  This weighting is best reflected in the percentages.

PS - There is a great deal of ambiguity in their numbers but I'm fairly sure I have it right.

Edit: Checking my %'s with theirs I noticed he failed to round properly as well. You always round to the nearest in percentages so it adds up correctly (occasionally a 5 can muck things up but it happens).

To Each Man, Responsibility

That poll sucks. And who gives a piece of cheese about IGN readers?

Off topic: Nintendo should offer email on the Wii. They can call it WiiMail!

Ignore. Edited, no longer relevant.
