Forums - Gaming - Why doesn't Sony just open more Naughty Dog studios and close all non-Naugty Dog ones?

What if I said Naughty Dog is overrated.

What if I said Ocarina of Time is overrated? It wouldn't make me instantly correct, would it?

Changing the name of a studio doesn't make it a different studio.

If everything they touch turns to gold, I'd like a handjob now.

Be careful what you wish for. It seems like all of the brilliant minds behind Uncharted and The Last of Us are leaving Naughty Dog. Without them, will future ND games be as phenomenal? We'll have to wait and see.

This silly argument still going?

Sony had yet to master the art of cloning.

Nah. If anyone could spit out the kind of games they make, then I think there'd be, oh I don't know.... other games like them?

I do agree that their controls are not THE BEST, but they are (like you said) very proficient with optimization, writing/storytelling, and in my opinion the biggest one, platforming.  It all started with Crash Bandicoot, which evolved into Jak and Daxter, which then progressed into Uncharted, along with TLOU.  You can literally look at each console generation and see how they've consistently pushed and expanded their fundamental elements that make them unique.

There are plenty of other games like them. Finding well-made third person shooters isn't hard. Finding well-made third person shooters with a good, memorable story? Now that's hard. Go play Vanquish if you want to see how others can also make good third person shooters.

ND is good (great) at optimizing, pushing the system, and they have good writers. That's what sets them apart. But they are not what I consider great developers, there are better. They are good developers with great writers. I also am not a fan of NDs dependance on scripting for their stories, which linearizes their games really badly, but that's a personal thing.

I'm pretty sure this would cause Naughty Dog games to fall in quality.

That's right if they just send all of GG's employees through the ND-ify machines then boom: clones of ND employees!
