Forums - Gaming - Wii U vs Xbox One: Race to second place

Who will win in the end?

Wii U 425 70.60%

Xbox One 172 28.57%

Total:597

In the long term, whether the Wii U or Xbox One grabs second place is going to rely, probably, as much on the success of the PS4 as it would the Wii U; as someone said earlier in the thread, for first-two-console purchases, a Wii U and PS4, or Xbox One and Wii U, (in whatever order pleases you,) makes a fair bit more sense than a PS4 and Xbox One, especially when Nintendo's heavier exclusives start dropping. Put simply, far less overlap and more unique content by making a Wii U your second console; the only time it doesn't make sense, obviously, is if you aren't interested in what Nintendo's library has to offer.

With that in mind, the bigger a piece of the pie PS4 carves for itself in the various markets, the more likely it is that the Xbox One's piece will get smaller and smaller as it loses potential customers who simply won't see the point in getting both. Nintendo, because of both the aforementioned lack of library overlap, and its cheaper price, is more likely to be picked up as a second console than either the PS4 or Xbox One, and since both Playstation and Xbox users would be doing this...

So, to summarize; if the Xbox One stabilizes its position against the PS4, and turns it into a much closer race, especially if it takes back the U.S., then it will be in second place.

If, on the other hand, the PS4's average sales lead grows year after year, and the Xbox One's long-term 'marathon' sales suffer as a result, then it becomes much more likely the Wii U will sneak in there.

Wiiu base will fall soon enough, X1 will slightly rise and hold on strength of 3rd parties.

2nd will be close as between gc xbox, or slightly more separated.  LT Wiiu 18m X1 as high as around 29m.

X1 should outsale wiiu in Aug, madden effect.

Lol, care to make a bet? If X1 passes 29 million, I win.

A race to second place? The first console to place second wins?

Because technically, the PS4 was the first console to be in second place. The Wii U came in second place in the race to second place. At best, the XBO can place third in the race to second place, if it ever manages to place second at all.

depends on smash and amiboos, if they do gangbusters xbox one will have no chance.

especially amiboos,  all hinges on if those explode.

A lot of hope for amibos. But I really dont see the appeal. Like it was said before, the wii u will keep second just by being the secondary console of choice. When the price drops to $250 wich I think it will be this year it will fly of shelves with all this exclusives coming out. Idealy the price should be $200 but nintendo wont eat so many loses this early. By next year it will be close to $200.

Stop deluding yourselves Nintendo Fanboys. Nintendo Wii U is barley outselling xbox one with their biggest games coming out this year (and xbox one hasn't released in all of their territories). Once Halo/ Gears come out and all of the third party multiplat games skip 7th gen consoles and are only available on ps4 and xbox one the Wii U will be last for sure.

Ever ask yourself why that might be?   Might it have to do with the fact the Xbox brand and associated consoles are not high sales markets?

Now there's a mistake right there. PS4 and Xbox One have the same multiplats. PS4 is killing Xbox One because they are going after the same fanbase. People who want 2 console will most likely pick Wii U because it doesn't have almost the same exact games. It has Nintendo exclusives and some amazing 3rd party exclusives. I admit im can be a Nintendo fanboy but a lot of the reason is because they saved the industry's ass

I voted for wii u but we all know x1 will win
