Forums - Nintendo - Rant: third party games' graphics on Wii

I don't even own a wide screen TV. Or an HDTV. Probably won't get one until 2010 at the earliest.

i have played wii on my wide screen HDTV and it looks better than the normal TV's

wat

Sorry to break your bubble, but that game looks butt ugly, N64 era at best.. gamecube could (and did) pull off waaaayy better graphics than that
Bottomline is: if a game dissapoints you, DON'T BUY IT! if more people did that, it would teach developpers that ugly games that were already ugly on the gamecube have no place on the wii.. The wii can look as good as galaxy, and we shouldn't settle for less, it's not because wii sports looks like crap every developer is entitled to copy on its looks..

Listen to the voice of reason, then do as I say.

"but now, in 2008, almost everyone has a widescreen and significantly more people own an HDTV."

Um, HDTV market share isn't even 50% yet, as companies hope for that at the end of this year.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

cruis'n FTW!!!

But on a serious note, developers have no real incentive to push the wii's graphical limit because games sell well regardless, and ports sell even better. Really what those devs are doing is just making huge profits by just using their old tech and adding new content, their is seriously no risk factor, no matter how many copies sell I'm pretty sure they'll be making truck loads of money which they can then swim around in just like scrounge mcduck. lolz

"It looks almost on par with the 360 and PS3 on an SDTV." Have you even played a 360/PS3 on a SDTV they blow the wii out of the water, the wii looks more like the xbox then the 360. And the PS2/xbox supported higher resolutions then the wii, GT4 does 1080i and some xbox games support HD resolutions

The wii is capable of supporting those resolutions but not capable to pull it off nice. I never seen a ps2 xbox game pull of higher resolutions with still keeping the quality graphics it would have in sd.

As for sd looking similar. THere is a limit on how good you could make a game look in sd no matter how powerful the console is. The wii does if devs make the games look nice get close to the 360 and ps3 in sd.

In the past I noticed that few third party developers were ever able to produce games that truely took advantage of the Gameboy or Gameboy Advance; this isn't to say that most games were technically garbage but few developers pushed the system to the limits or produced graphical assets which showed off their capabilities. To date, third party publishers have put the same kind of effort towards the Wii which could be explained because they didn't expect the Wii to sell that well and they don't understand why someone would make a "less powerful" system; the low expectations for the Wii will be corrected in future games, but the lack of understanding of Nintendo's strategy may never be corrected.

Is this true? Man that sucks.
