I honestly think the WIi U shouldn't be discontinued till the normal 5 year cycle. No matter if it fails. If Nintendo starts doing this. This will start a problem they won't get out of. That's how 3rd party games nonsense started on Nintendo. Nintendo was arrogant, the system was underpowered, or had some sort of limit. No one really brought real stuff to the systems. Fans got use to not buying anything from those companies. 3rd Parties gave up. Then fans just give up on Nintendo.

If they relase the new system. People will get mad. And just wait on the next system because they don't want to switch. Or even cause a loss of loyal Nintendo fans. Then for what? When the next PS and Xbox come out. The new system is already old and out of date even more.

DS came out a mere 3.5 years after GBA and it went on to sell over 150 million and is the best selling Nintendo product ever.

360 came out 4 years after Xbox and went on to sell over 80 million and nearly quadruple its predeccessor.

Releasing a new device a bit earlier than expected doesnt hurt ur brand, what Sega did was completely different because they released multiple devices a few years apart and barely supported any of them.

You got me there. But a fumbling system will have the higher risk of pissing people off. I didn't buy a DS till DS lite. A lot of people ignored the DS till the revision.

Well, chances are that if you are cutting a system's lifespan short by a considerable time period, there's going to be more of the market that you aren't pissing off. Although at the same time, you aren't going to win over that market if you make a reputation out of it, Nintendo have (arguably) only done this with the Virtual Boy and GBA Micro, very sporadic occurrences, which quite frankly takesa lot of prompting to make people remember those things in the first place.

And to be fair, the DS Lite coincided perfectly with NSMB. It was basically a whole different system looking from the outside in for a lot of people.

Then you could argue the DS Lite was the real start of the system. I know that's dumb though lol. If Wii U is ended in 2016. I might buy the next system right there. But They gotta show me something that is actually useful in all regards. The Wii U tablet, to me is the Wii Remote speaker on that.

Because the DS sold more copies.

Hey don't click here ! It's creepy !!

I'll make a better signature when I'll have time to do it...

What Ninty needs now is not a succesful console, but customer loyalty wich they are somewhat regaining this gen. That's all they have, left no gimicks will reseruct them now, if they release a new handheld they will lose a ton of customer loyalty.

Why?

I'm saying the handheld will release in more than a year, maybe even 1.5 years. 3DS sales will be down to 60-70k at most per week by then. They can't live on that forever and another 60k from WiiU.

This is exactly what Sega did, they kept releasing consoles to fast, they lost customer loyalty and now look at them

Nintendo have been releasing consoles fast for many years now. Have they lost loyalty?

I highly doubt that releasing a new console every 7 years and 6 years (respectively) is considered "fast".

DS (2004) + 7 years= 3DS (2011)

Wii (2006) + 6 years = wii u (2012)

The shortest life-cycle for a Nintendo console before its succesor was released was 4 years which was the Gamecube.

By this logic PS4 is selling as badly then. Both systems are selling well, so I don't understand either. XD

By what logic is PS4 selling as badly?

3DS is selling as well as PS4, so why only 3DS being said to be selling poorly?

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

It's said because of many Nintendo fans' expectations. I was ripped last year by multiple Ninty fans when I said it wouldn't sell as much as the DS. I noticed it on other memebers too. Henceforth, some people say it's doing bad because it's tracking below the predecessor.

Personally, I think it's doing well. Just because it's selling less doesn't mean it failed.

Considering the PS4's price and each games price, you'd suspect that the 3DS would be doing exceptionally better...right?

OT:

The 3DS is selling poorly despite so many things it has in its corner.  Nintendo's first party titles, the large 3rd party titles, the majority of 3rd party exclusives, price point, lackluster competetion, head start I mean the list goes on.  It should be doing better with the available resources it has.

Fast? 5 years is fast? Sega Released the Saturn release date at an event. And it was that day. The worst idea ever. Not to mention the Sega CD, 32x, CDX solo, and Saturn all within 2 years.

Lol, seeing videos about that and reading about that event, I always think to myself if the people working at Sega were under some type of drug.

But it isn't selling as well as the PS4. if you align launches or compare week to week sales.
