Remember PS3's situation last gen, and see how it turned out. |
The only thing holding PS3 back in the beginning was price. Unlike XBone, which was negatively received due to it's policies and Kinect pack in. Price just made it worse.
Once the PS3 got price parity, or close enough to it, it started outselling the XB360. XBone getting price parity hasn't done anything. I think everyone agrees that the US is the only country the console was gonna be successful in, due to it's America centric features. Well....price and negative stigma took too long to get rid of and it's now made the PS4 the de facto console to own, even in America (XBone wasn't gonna get Europe and it'll be DOA in Japan).
If MS makes any price moves in the near future, it will not only be a detriment to their revenue/profit (since they already had to drop it to $399 so quickly), but Sony can simply match it since the PS4 is basically just printing money right now. It may actually be worse for MS to drop the price any time soon and have Sony match it. PS4 is already extremely popular at $399 with, apparently, "n0 gaEmz". Imagine what $349 or $299 would do? Then popularity amongst friends will start to set in (buying the console that all your friends have) and it'll just be a domino effect resulting in gen 6 all over again.
This situation is nothing like PS3s. Price and having some of the best 1st party studios in the world saved the PS3. MS doesn't have a price advantage, price parity has had a 0 effect, and their 1st party doesn't stack up to Sony's. It's a very apples to oranges comparison, actually.
