| Ninsect said: Yes? But that has nothing to do with the money MS were willing to pay for it. PLUS, the deal was made before the consoles launched so they had no idea how this gen would play out. They probably thought, like so many did, that MS would build on 360's success and manage to lead the generation. Why do people think it has anything to do with MS allowing them to keep the IP. Why wouldn't Sony do the same? |
Because they said as such, like right here.
So basically Sony wanted to keep the IP, Microsoft was willing to let them keep control of the IP.
People who keep throwing out "lul itz money1!" are missing the point. You can reduce everything down to money in business. Why does Naughty Dog make exclusive games for Sony? Money. Whether Insomniac was going to bring this game to Sony or to MS, money would have been involved. But they chose one over the other based on the ability to keep their IP.
How about this: next report i receive from this thread, i'll shut it down, and then retroactively run a fine tooth comb over it and ban everyone i can possibly be justified in banning.
So knock off the inter-group digs.

Depends on who is paying for the servers right. People used Destiny but Activision is paying a lot for those servers. As we know MS is paying right out of the gate for dedicated servers so that is a cost that IS does not have to pay. The infrastructure and everything is already built so thats another cost the developer does not have to pay. There are advantages in going MS for MP games if you do not have the cash.

You would think people on VGC would learn a thing or two with all the info flowing around here.

MS was willing to publish the game and also was willing to let them keep the IP, simple as that." Are we getting worse than N4G..... |
Sorry, I don't exactly buy that. Insomniac hasn't said that Sony wouldn't allow them to keep the IP. Seems like convient reasoning to me. Surely that would've been more convicing then this transparent reasoning: "However when Microsoft announced the Xbox One we felt that what Microsoft was offering in terms of the platform feature set and Xbox Live presence was a great match for Sunset Overdrive.
For example, our multiplayer mode in the game called Chaos Squad supports eight players traversing a giant open world together to take on randomized missions. This is not a simple feature to create. Yet Microsoft’s muscle on the platform and Xbox Live fronts has been invaluable in helping us create a unique multiplayer experience. Furthermore the overall partnership has been seamless, and we’ve been extremely happy with the level of support and commitment we’ve received for Sunset Overdrive."

I'll give them the benifit of the doubt that owning their own ip was more important to them than money, they've had such a poor time with other companies owning all of their characters up to fuse it can't help but side with them on that. When it comes to the cloud, xbox live and general online, no way, anyone can have deticated servers pretty easily so it simply can't have even been a factor.
Buying order: Switch, better pc
Why is it an Xbox exclusive? Dat Paper. Just like any other third party exclusive.
Bet with Adamblaziken:
I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
They probably went to MS and Sony for funding. MS just offered to fund them more money, so they went with MS.
