Forums - Microsoft - Insomniac Explains Why Sunset Overdrive Is Exclusive to Xbox One

Anybody who actually believes they chose xbox one over anything else because of 'the cloud' and to retain the IP are, well stupid.

As breedinbull says, it's money. Microsoft chose to fund the game and thats why it is exclusive. Money..Money....MONEY!

If they wanted to retain the IP and keep their indie status, they could've done what almost every other indie dev has done and self fund/self publish or find funding elsewhere, but microsoft paid, the end.

Edit: Moderated - Starcraft

To be fair, it is always money... and that for me isnt a problem (and why should it be a problem to *Anyone*. I mean Fuse sold nothing and failed, you can only live so paying staff off your own money before you need to ensure they have work.  So it was probably a decision between fire lots of people or take up a project. In this case they get to keep the ip, which is preferable, so why not.

As a sony user I have no negative feeling to insomniac at all, I fully understand why they did it. I dont think they are a particularly strong comany as it stands, but I'm glad they are still able to make games and employ people. Which should be applauded.

Sunset Overdrive doesn't look like a game I'd play anyways, but that was a bullshit reason from Insomniac. They don't have to sugarcoat it. They could've just said that MS paid for publishing, and funding.

They didn't say MS didn't fund them, however, they said that MS let them keep the IP.

I never understood why people have to explain why they put their game on a system exclusively.... It's their game, they can do what they want.

If you want a more clear and accurate explanation:

Hey don't click here ! It's creepy !!

I want a PlayStation All-Stars Sequel ! Come on Sony, stop making too many shooters !

I'll make a better signature when I'll have time to do it...

that is perfectly fine and all, but to say that an 8 player co-op in a large open world can be done more easily on MS hardware is hard to believe.

I don't get why they have to keep coming up with new and varied reasons for this.

Microsoft footed the bill and let them keep IP exclusivity.  Relations with Sony seemed to sour after Resistance 3 was sent out to die.

All these other excuses just seem like passing the time at this point.  And the fact they keep having to answer this same question again and again must be really bloody frustrating.

Probably the cost to operate online servers are way lower on Xbox side?

Perhaps this is why they didn't say this.

That could explain the lack of a ps4 version. Where is the Pc version then ?
