its actually two closets. and i went in there to do a quick estimation and it must be closer to like 4000. im horrible with estimating shit, but yeah, its much closer to that. id say maybe 500 or so are doubles, so you can subtract that out of there. i have been collecting for over two decades so yea, i have a lot of shit. a good portion of them complete with box and instructions and in nearly flawless condition.

Wow. Sorry for getting back into this when I said I was done, but I need to say this...

You do sound terribly spoilt.

Let me tell you a story about a spoilt girl I know, let's call her A...

A is 20 years old and her dad is quite wealthy. Since she was 18 she started demanding that she go on holiday seperate from her parents. Just a few weeks ago she went to the Italian islands (a long flight, trust me) with her boyfriend. Daddy paid everything. Including the 5 star hotel and pocket money. But this was no special holiday, no no no - she did this twice a year. And she doesn't do shit for a living. Sits on her ass and pretends to be wise and philanthropic. Did she display any gratitude to her hardworking daddy when she came back? Ohhhhh no! The hotel was ok, but the food was shit. Why couldn't she get 1st class seats!? She sat next to a fat, smelly guy on the plane and it was her dad's fault. And the stop over. THE FUCKING STOPOVER. She had to wait - WAIT! - to get into the VIP lounge during the stopover. And the weather wasn't as good as it should have been.

Spoilt and (I have no qualms saying it) a total bitch. She will waste all the money she inherents and become a monster of a woman.

Now...

You are obviously very fortunate.

I would kill - KILL - for a games collection like that. (ok I wouldn't kill, but I'd think about it). Surely you have a love for gaming if you have such a big collection? Surely you can go and spend some time on your old favourites!? How about some Powerstone 2 on that beautiful Dreamcast?

And with a little patience... just a little you'll soon have more AAA games in a shorter space than ever before.

2015 looks like it'll be the best year for gaming ever.

(but overhype is of course not good)

So I'd be grateful if I were you. You sound more fortunate than most.

im reluctant to sit here and defend myself over this.. the difference between me and basically everybody else on this planet is that i took care of my shit when i was a kid. i never threw away my 64 boxes and i kept them mint my whole life. and most of the games in my collection, i have acquired due to certain jobs that i have had since i was 19. i have never traded in a single game my whole life, and when people ask you what you want for christmas and things like that, and every year you just tell them video games, it kind of adds up.

let me ask you a question, mr. elitist, where are all the presents you got for your birthday when you were 6, 7, 8, 9, 10? what about your christmas presents and other random gifts for all those years? what did you get and where are they now? youre painting a very very ugly picture of me and its based off of pure ignorance. i have numurous times admitted i was wrong about stuff in this thread. when have you admitted you were wrong about anything? have you not been wrong about one thing this whole time? step outside yourself, man, seriously. dont make me seem like im some evil spoiled rotten bitch just because i kept my shit in order. now let me ask you again, where are all your childhood presents? i bet if you still had all your shit, people would be saying the same exact thing about you, wouldnt they?

very ironic coming from someone who accused ninsect of being a coward. cant even admit when youre wrong about something.

yes, go hide to some other corner of this site where you can continue to be out of control and hover over people with your superiority. you clearly are in the right.

This year you get WD, LBP3, ISS, SO, Destiny, FarCry 4, TF, Mariokart 8, SSB4, Project Spark, DriveClub, MGS:GZ, Shadow of Mordor. And those are just on the top of my head. Even though 2014 might not be the very best test of gaming, It's still not as barren as many make it sound like.

At least on PS you don't have to be online to play the games you bought and downloaded from PSN. I've got several digital titles on PS that I can Play whenever I'm offline.

i guess that list doesnt seem impressive to me because theyre all sequels with the exception of watch dogs (which was a real disappointment. and that is something im not in the minority with). whereas 2007 was full of game changers like uncharted, bioshock, ass creed, mass effect, and cod4. and sequels like mp3c and smg were just.. the best of their kind really. instant classics. i dunno.. my opinion of course but 2007 was fucking loaded.

What game is Sunset Overdrive, TitanFall, Destiny, Project Spark, DriveClub, Shadow of Mordor sequels to?

the first console i bought with my own money was.. the wii u. but its really not about what i bought with my own money. its about what i have experienced over the course of my life.

Oh, but it is about what you buy with your own money. Having to foot the bill yourself for all of your entertainment fundamentally changes the way you perceive and appreciate it. As a kid, I took it for granted that my parents would provide my games for me (I had no older siblings, either). The last system they ever bought for me was the SNES in 1993. By time I was in high school, on birthdays & Christmases I only got things I needed, not things I wanted. When I got my first job, I had more freedom to buy what I wanted when I wanted, but I was still constrained by how much I brought in. Necessities still came first, and when a video game was half a week's pay (it took longer to earn the money to buy a game back then, as sticker prices have remained flat while the minimum wage was much lower in 1998), you understand what it takes to really earn your luxuries instead of passively enjoying them because someone else is paying.

i have been an owner of all seventh gen consoles from the start. sixth gen, the gc and ps2 tore it up pretty quickly. 64 had an abnormally low amount of games, but there were other factors that contributed to that. ps1 got the ball rolling pretty quick. snes, genesis had games coming out the ass immediately as well. i really dont see how whats going on right now is the same as what happened with older consoles.

If the Wii U was the first system you owned, then you were gifted anything before that. You may "own" it, but you didn't earn it. In any case, you overestimate previous generations' first years. Let's take the 16-bit era as an example. According to Wikipedia, the SNES had 66 games in its first year in America, but it's worth pointing out that many of those had already been out in Japan for a while. The SNES wasn't released in America until nine months until after it came out in Japan, so the SNES already built up a library Same for the Genesis, which took 8-½ months to come out in America after its Japanese release. Thanks to Nintendo's de fact monopoly on third-party games in the 80s, the Genesis only had some 29 games released by the end of 1989, including Japan-only releases. That changed in 1990 when another 57 games were released. And keep in mind that in the 16-bit era a team of 15-20 guys could churn out a game in a few months on a budget of less than $250k. The PS4 and XBO will by the end of this year each have about 55-60 games available at retail. Of course, you arbitrarily dismiss most of those as mere shovelware, but how many early SNES and Genesis games were really, truly top-flight games worth buying. If you say that's subjective, then so too must the dimissal of the majority of the PS4 & XBO lineup be done based on subjective criteria. In any case, with games having longer production cycles, bigger teams, and bigger budgets, I'd say 60 games at retail in the first 13+ months is pretty damn good. It might've been 70+ games had so many not been pushed back to next year.

also, for your information, i have probably like 6000 video games in my closet. i know a shit ton about the history of all the major consoles and, really, since the super nintendo started, ive played all of them as they were released. (i had older brothers 6 and 10 years older than me so i was fortunate enough to start out with actraiser for snes as my very first video game.)

Yeah, and I've been playing video games as early as 1984 and have played a lot of games as well in those 30 years. It takes more than being a lifelong gamer and having older siblings that were gamers to have any sort of perspective or knowledge on the history of gaming.

i think maybe a huge difference between what was going on in the 16 bit era compared to whats going on now was the insane graphics improvement. back then, EVERY game seemed like it was bad ass just because of how awesome it looked. the evolution from the nes to the genesis for example made every game on the genesis seem like an amazing piece of software. so even if most the games now are not really considered as some of the best, it was just a different time. i guess thats not the fault of the ps4 or anything, but it still plays into the perception of whats going on (which is what youre talking about). i guess my point is that perception isnt limited only to what youre talking about.

also, my mother gave me money to stand in line and get a wii in 11/06, but i bought nearly all the games for that console. she bought me maybe 3 or 4 in its whole life, and i have like 100 games for my wii. so i got all those games myself. in fact, all seventh gen games i bought by myself. (in fact, i bought a 360 12/07, so that was the first console i bought myself). i still feel like 2014 is extremely lackluster. i commented to somebody else about 2007 because thats the equivalent year from last generation. it had way better games, and more of them. none of them had to be remasters either. things are just different now. maybe we can just agree to disagree.

those games arent sequels, but the only real standout games there (in my opinion) are sunset overdrive and titanfall. in 2007, the games that were coming out were unique and imaginitive.

This is the part where what you say doesn't stand up though.  In looking briefly at wikipedia (not the best source, but based on your taste I figure it might work out here) there are around 250 games that were released across all platforms (handhelds, PC, xbox, playstation, nintendo, etc) in 2007.  In 2014, PS4 is releasing over 100 games alone.  Between the other game systems, and the PC, that tells me that there are going to be more potentially worthwhile purchases now than there were back then.  Also, with the indie scene (which you seem to instantly discredit as shovelware), you are getting many more unique experiences - if you are willing to try them - than you were back in 2007.
