Forums - Sony - Selektive Memory: The Sony PlayStation 4

Please explain this thread again to me. It looks like a fair summary of things. So is this a parody because you left out some bad things?

Is it because I'm a moderate that I don't see the point of this thread?

Why do people keep bringing up that the PS4 is tracking slightly behind Wii? If I remember correctly, the Wii was tracking far better than PS2, yet it didn't even come close to PS2 numbers. The fact that PS4 is still doing better than PS2 is a very good sign. The Wii sold itself on the gimmick known as motion control gaming, which eventually died out causing the Wii's sales to die with it. PS4 is selling on the same grounds that PS2 was, and will certainly do better than Wii. As for these "unkept promises", sometimes things just take a while. Remember the trophy system? People just have to be patient.

Did the lack of supply really hurt it though? Everyone I know wanted it more because it was scarce.

Lack of supply is always harmful, the media might try to use it as evidence that demand is high, but the fact is from an economic standpoint its lost money plain and simple. The demand at time fluctuates, but it doesn't neccessarily increase if sold out.

I've missed somethings because this isn't comprehensive, but generally the only requirements for this thread is that it be something from last year.

That is a positive.

"The PS4 is currently leading globally and in the US, and its sales are tracking only slightly behind the Wii. Its performance this Holiday is expected to be good, (positive part) but if the console faces the supply problems it had earlier again, and takes too long to implement simple features like DLNA and promised features like MP3 support and Standby mode, then its going to be harmed considerably (negative part)."

"Selektive" eh? Hmmmm.

$100 more than it's closest competitor: Wii U.

All systems are inviting to indies at this point.

At this point, the first two words where "In 2013" the year is currently 2014.

Xbox 1 imo is the best controller right now. As stated, controller ergonomics are entirely personal opinion.

Personal opinion is irrelevant, I said the PS4's controller was generally regarded as better than its predecessors. I made no comparison of it to the XB1.

PR made you think lack of supply harmed sales. It's PR, encouraging many to purchase the system cause 'it's the cool thing to do'. I personally saw PS4's in, or asked if they had them in stock in my area, they always were. Outskirts of a city of 1 million people.

Economics allows me to know that lack of supply harmed sales. This is basic economics 101.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supply_and_demand

If there were supply issues, they would certainly be fixed by now with such a drought of sales for the past few months.

Again 2013.

Seems a little one sided dude.

Slow down and actually read the OP next time.

This is an evaluation of the PS4 during the year 2013. Its called Selektive memory, because its making fun of the fact that people tend to only remember the positive of their console of choice.

For the first sentence, not the entire post or else it would be "Selektive Memory: The Sony Playstation 4 2013" It was an entirely different paragraph.

Both the X1 and PS4 controllers are reguarded as better than their predecessors. To include one and omit the other is biased.

Personal experience said different. I'm fully aware of economics and laws supply and demand. My personal experience shows different from what was said about this.

Again, not cheaper by $100 compared to it's closest competitor, it was $50 more than the Wii U. Just because you choose not to include it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Power has never been a differentiating factor with consoles, and USUALLY the weakest have been the most successful.

Again, every console this gen has been inviting to indies.

Lastly, it's spelled selective, not selektive.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

he never said it was the best controller just that it was received better than its predecessors

at this point for the indies yet PS4 was better at first and those games added up

PS4 is usually thought of as competing with Xbox while Nintendo does their own thing.  Sure they conflict sometimes, but I don't think those looking for a WiiU are by and large the same audience looking at PS4/Xbone

acThere were supply issues in many places.  Of course it varied by location and country

He said until March not until now with supply.  Stop putting words in his mouth.

Actually, at that point the Wii U was the most wecoming to indies.

They are all new consoles in competition, all within the 8th gen for consoles.

Touche about the March thing, missed that. It wasn't intentional to put words in his mouth.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

Its called Selektive memory, because it is recalling the previous year. 2014 is irrelevant.

Both the X1 and PS4 controllers are reguarded as better than their predecessors. To include one and omit the other is biased.

Except, this a thread completely focused on the PS4, in the Sony Discussion subforum, I never even mentioned the XB1 or Wii U by name in the OP

Personal experience said different. I'm fully aware of economics and laws supply and demand. My personal experience shows different from what was said about this.

This is isn't up to debate, to much supply = lost money, not enough supply = lost money, equilibrium = maximum that is not debatable.

The Wii U is not its nearest competitor simply because the PS4 and XB1 were released much more closely togehther. I never said anything about it being determined by power. Also : http://www.engadget.com/2013/08/28/nintendo-wii-u-price-drop/

Again, every console this gen has been inviting to indies.

Why exactly is that relevant? This thread only concerns the PS4.

Lastly, it's spelled selective, not selektive.
