My preformance so far as a new player has been average at best. Honestly probably worse than average but I resolve to perfect my skills and knowledge!

Lemme show you something

The red stands for accusations, the green stands for defending.

Can you guess who the mafia is here based on this picture? This is from a single day of posting during a game.

Looks like the ones making the most accusations are mafia. After all if you are guilty and no one knows it the best thing to do is put the focus on everyone and anyone possible that's not you. Also if you are constantly questioning others you arn't answering any questions yourself. Less opportunity to slip. Also thanks for taking the time to at least clear that up.

About the "reading compreshions" I understand now why you found it suspect and it's my own fault bcause I used bad english. I can see how "them" could be a slip. But isn't it a bit early in game for that? I'm under thei impression that PMing anyone about the game that's not WoW at any time is against the rules and would get ya insta killed. I wasn't sure before and still not but assumed that speaking day or night counted as an action. It makes logical sense to me because how could you be in town hall speaking to everyone while at the same time rummaging someone's trash to see if they have any mob connections. Which is why I don't know but I think a lot of the people who are quiet now are probably quiet because they are busy preforming a day action of some sort. Still don't really know which is why I asked, but it was that logic and uncertainty that made me think that maybe mob meetings were a night only action which is why I asked about that. Thankfully tho it made things a little more clear when WoW came in and said mafia can only talk at night. It hasn't been night yet so I can understand why you could see Them as a slip but I don't know if it's too early for that kind of slip or not. I have no idea if mafia knows who each other are yet and I assume they havn't had a chance to talk yet.

I don't understand how you can deduce someone knows something from someone who's obviously never played before asking basic questions. I can understand how you could suspect someone that slips and says they know something they obviously shouldn't. However going after someone that's expressed nothing but ignorance and has been wrong just seems like scapegoating and grasping at straws.

If ya want to know what I know its simple. It's pretty much nothing. I know the rules and the basic design of the game. I know whats on the sign up page but I've misunderstood and made some bad assumptions about that info. Which is something I need to fix by PMing WoW more. I've only PM'd WoW a few times and he was kind enough to again go over the basics of the game. How it's a small group with knowledge vs. a larger group that's in the dark. WoW also mentioned that sometimes there could be a 3rd or 4th faction but neither confirmed or denied that any were present. I also asked about and learned some Fire Emblem lore I didn't know about because I never was able to play the game like what a Pegaus Knight is. That's pretty much it. I would be glad to share the PM's with you after the game ends.

I disagree answering my questions would help you find mafia, unless you are mafia then you'd probably want to keep me as ignorant as possible. The more I know the better I can help find mafia. It's not about pressure or alleviating it. It's about knowing what's going on and not having the town lose because of a misunderstanding. Now you can assume everyone is guilty until proven innocent and keep everyone edgy and defensive with empty accusations. Or we can all work together and assume everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That way people relax and let their guard down and increase the chance they will have a substantial and meaningful slip if they are mafia. However I don't know which would be a better way to go. In your experiance what do you find is usually best?

@underlined: Because noobs tend to say things under the assumption that they are always true. For instance, playing under the assumption that mafia can or can't talk, or knowledge of another faction, or whatever. As an example http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=114531
This was my very first game of mafia. Here is my noob post.

"theprof00 on 17 August 2010

So, if hatmoza's request for kratos came out worked, what would happen? Would someone then protect Kratos?

I'm trying to figure out what the point of his gesture was. I think hatmoza is a pretty smart guy, but not too smart, not khuutra smart. I think he's laying 2nd yomi down. But I think he was convincing enough to end up being protected in the end.

Can we protect ourselves? Or only prevent someone else from taking action?

Additionally, I think we should re-evaluate kantor as a possible SK. See, if he doesn't act, then he is randomly decided for, correct? If he doesn't act, and it doesn't seem like he will act since it looks like he's not reading the thread, he is virtually an SK. So, kantor is a liability, correct?

There are two possible solutions to this. Vote for him to be inactive, or lynch him. Inacting him may be a mistake because if he is not on, we may never get more information from him, or at least it may be too late. Lynching him would take out a questionable doubt down the road that might end up sparing the real SK. RIght?"

Tell me what looks interesting in the above quote

@italics
Well, yes there is that question. Here's my viewpoint based on this singular instance. Right now, we are relatively sure that mafia can't talk. If there are some noob mafia, the experienced mafia can't tell them what to watch out for. That means noob mafia are perhaps running around blind. So if I talk "coach" too much to the wrong people, or the wrong people are listening, I'll basically be putting up a set of guidelines for noob mafia to follow on day 1. But, it depends on the question. If I think there's no harm in answering a question, I'll answer it. Secondly, I don't keep people on edge with empty accusations. I haven't accused anyone of anything. I've simply asked you and others a few questions. Am I putting you on edge with simple questions?

About the graph I posted, this was in the game of thrones game, where Mafia won without losing a single member. I was on a secondary faction along with Rol. I told the town who every single member of the mafia was, yet they were misled by hatmoza and some bad noob townies. The mafia was:
Noctis
Stefl
Hatmoza
Kantor
Mantle

Now look again how the aggressions carry out. The only person a mafia defended was a townie. This day was a choice to lynch between spurge and mantle. Out of the three people being aggressive toward mantle, two were mafia. Out of the four people attacking spurge, 3 were mafia. The most accusations were by both spurge and stefl. Stefl targeted 2 mafia and spurge. Spurge targeted 2 mafia and 1 secondary scum faction. Notice that there are votes everywhere. This is kind of typical mafia. Had mantle been lynched, and he almost was, it could've broken open the whole game, as it would've reversed all the suspicion spurge was getting and given him the confidence to pursue his other choices. Unfortunately, Rol had already stepped forward as a target. Everyone knew he had to go at some point, and hatmoza took control of the conversation and everyone voted for rol that day.

This is why it's important to look at what people are doing, and why day 1 is so incredibly important to the game.

I have to confess, I am somewhat in awe of your dedication.

It was Hatmoza all along, wasn't it?

EBWOP:
FYI that wasn't day 1, it was day 3 or 4 I think.
The point I'm making is that it's important to see the relationships early on, because even a graph as simple as that one, showed some amazing information.

Smeags could you also post a list of actual contributions and include this total?
Contributions are things like asking what someone thinks about something, or playing detective.
Things like hinting about their character or the flavor or whatever is non-contribution.

Basically, is the player making moves or saying things casually. I'd be interested in seeing the comparison.
