There wont be much in it to be honest,Amiibo might swing it in Smash bros favour, buy isn't Mario Kart going to be seeing Amiibo support also??

Melee did beat Double Dash, but barely and it was available for 2 years longer.

Smash Bros. will be front loaded. Holiday sales will be HUGE! But it won't have near as good legs. It will probably open bigger than MK8 as well. Me and 2 friends already have a Wii U and one of my friends is getting one for his birthday in a few days and and another friend is getting one for Christmas. All of us 4 that are getting/have a Wii U before Christmas are getting the game day one. and my friend that's getting it for Christmas is getting Smash Bros. That could show that there's probably a lot of people that are getting it pretty much as soon as it's out too. So I think Smash Bros. won't sell more in the long run but it will most likely sell more in the beginning. On the Wii... Mario Kart had great legs... selling over a million each year 2008-2013. Brawl only sold over a million it's first 2 years. And it sold 65% of it's total sales in it's first year. Mario Kart Wii sold only 38% of its sales in its first year. See.. Mario Kart isn't as much front loaded. My other friends are getting Mario Kart later... I have it and I waited about a month to get it.

How? And how would you measure who pushes more consoles?

Sure there will be more Wii Us sold around the time Smash is released but MK will also be pushing the sales in the holidays.

It depends... if you're counting 3DS sales probably yes, but if you count just the Wii U version no way.
Also, I still think it's going to sell less than Brawl, SSBB was hyped a lot more (and probably too much) and for a period of time, having a SSBB original copy was the only way to install the homebrew channel (and Nintendo set the cost of SSBB to 100€ at the time for this reason, clever move in my opinion), I'm sure this helped it a lot.

Mario Kart is a mass market game, Smash is a niche game. And I personally do not like Smash at all, I rented the N64 version and it was very simple and boring and did not offer deep gameplay like Killer Instinct Gold or Soul Calibur.

Isn't smash going to be on 2 systems, Wii U and the handheld beast ie the 3DS. I think Smash has a pretty good chance.
