Edit:  New Game is like a moe version of Shirobako.

Like, super moe. So much blushing and stuttering and all adorably designed women.

Watched Charlotte the other day. Definitely a sleeper.

It was talked about enough back when it came out. It just ended up only being okay. It didn't really resonate emotionally even though that was the apparent goal, there were more than a few plotholes thanks to the use of time travel that went so far as to make one episode basically go poof later in the show, and otherwise the ending felt super rushed due to trying to fit way too much story into too few episodes basically from the start. It wasn't a bad show, but it didn't really meet its potential to get beyond average.

I'd say Charlotte was a solid 7.5/10. Not anything I'd go back to or actively suggest to anybody, but not a bad watch if you're bored and have four hours to kill. Actually, drop that to 7/10 for having the cringiest first ten minutes of any show I've ever watched. It's absurd how unlikeable the main character was and how he epitomized being a douche in the first episode to the degree that I actually dropped the show for most of the season it was airing.

Maybe it was just me not expecting much of it. lol

Thinking about starting D Grayman. Never watched or read it before but I always heard its pretty good and a new season is airing right now.

Ok, I'll take the bait. So... um... I loved these last few seasons of Star Wars Rebels. Oh wait, I bet that doesn't count. So.... um... anyone liking the new Berserk?

Yeah, at least Shirobako tried to be somewhat realistic by having a good amount of male characters.  I doubt there are many all-female game departments around.  All young and pretty, too.

Well, unless this ends up being an Otome game, but it doesn't look like it.

Regardless, I claim the lead character designer as a waifu.

As OP I have first dibs, it's a rule.

I'm feeling kind of bitter about this.  Go pick a tsundere instead.  You know the mature women are mine.

Dammit Fun, that's a touchy subject to talk about :p  from the communities I've checked it seems the general feeling is ... it sucks. I think this was sent out of the gate to fail with the the aweful CGI. But IMO the reactions are a knee jerk reaction to that (look at Myamimelist, Bananya Cat is rated higher.... a cat in a banana that dreams of becoming a chocolate covered Banana is rated higher....says alot)

There's no denying tho, when you have source material as well, Legendary as Beserk.. however you go about adapting it, it should be treated with respect. Something that this 2016 version lacks.

Too bad. It's kind of what happened to... many things actually (the prequel trilogy, crouching tiger sequel, Star Ocean last game, and probably Final Fantasy VII remake). Thats very sad because I have a list of old animes without endings that I want to see finished. T.T

PS - I don't feel the sole responsability for "you kno what" should be on the OP. I'll try latter again and you are not permited to answer until I get at least one reply from someone else.

Sorry I'm a little late, but yeah big berserk fan here and I saw Berserk (2016). Where to begin...first of all I wasn't a big fan of how they changed the animation to cgi. The problem with this is that the source material(manga) has amazingly detailed art that brings it to life whenver you read it and with cgi everything just looks so dead to me. I find this very disrespectful to all the hard work Miura and his assisstants put into the art, instead of using that art as reference and imitate it through hand drawn animation, they went went the easy route with cgi.

Secondly, they skipped a lot of stuff, 2 arcs to be precise, the Blackswordsman and Lost kids arcs and are skipping right into the Retribution Arc.  Those 2 arcs may not be necessary for the main plot of Berserk, but they show how Guts has developed as a character after "that night" and a much darker side to him after he lost everything. Also, they have some of the best Berserk moments in there and it would truly be a shame to not see them being animated. They also skipped how Guts got his new sword, the Dragonslayer(the one in ep.1 of 2016), what happened to Casca after "that night", how they escaped "that night" and who helped them. None of this things seem to be getting animated, since all of that is before the arc they are animating now.

Finally, my verdict. I didn't enjoy it for the reasons I posted above. Maybe if I didn't read the manga I would've enjoyed it more. I'm still gonna watch it because it's Berserk and it's finally animated, but it deserves much more than what it got. Personally, I recommend that you read the manga because it is truly a masterpiece and you should do it from the beginning, since the first season also left out some stuff. Be warned though, the manga is uncensored, so if you can't handle certain scenes in the anime, I doubt you'll handle them in the manga.

Things I did enjoy from the anime were the voices for Guts and Puck, I think they're pretty much perfect. The music has always been very good in the first season and it seems like this one will too. The OP is so far my favorite of the season, truly captures Berserk well, having "that scene" in it might have been going overboard a little, but it is arguably the most important scene in Berserk, so I'm okay with it.

I was going to watch the Berserk movie trilogy once but only got 10 minutes into the first movie and couldn't go any further. WHO THE FUCK APPROVED CGI!?
