Just wow. I have a new frontrunner of this season. Buranki is amazing. Great direction, art direction, sound, music, characters. It's just really really well made with a big budget to back it up. And this is all despite being a children in mechs anime. The 3d CGI is the only thing that holds it back but they are still able to deliver impressive action and setpieces.

If that thing was animated by Trigger it would easily be a strong contender for AOTY.

Does it actually improve after episode one? Because I thought episode one was decent for the first half, and then just fell to pieces as a clusterfuck of bad storytelling in the second half. It completely pushed me away from the show with all that unexplained nonsense that they tried to pass off as introducing story elements, when really, it was just haphhazard crap that made it way too obvious that it was a made for TV original animation with no source material to speak of, not at all contributed to by anybody that has written above the level of fan fiction.

It really does improve in the second ep. First part is some nice action witha fw shounen tropes and second part they introduce the main villain and the main dynamic of the anime. They make the central theme of working together literal. Overll it's just straight solid direction with some awesome shots. I wasn't reminded of Trigger for nothing.

Also OP and ED are really nice. For me it's the most complete package of any anime so far.

Grimgar ep. 2

How many people does it take to kill 1 goblin wouldn't be out of place as the beginning of a bad joke but its very much the focus In this episode. I'm not sure if I'm finding the fact they're so weak refreshing or frustrating, will have to keep watching to find that out. It is nice to see the psychological impact it seemed to have on Ranta, really makes me wonder what's gonna happen if they have to kill a human. Also we got a little hint that Yume might see Shihuro as more than just a friend, her reaction when she was getting the male attention was telling, Shihuro looks damn cute with her new hair clip.

Really find Ranta annoying tho, don't see that changing and fan service is great and all, great Yume shot, but lets not go down that route with this anime.

The fan service was only a single shot for a few seconds, so I can't say it is detracting from the serious nature of the anime yet. That aside, I find their weakness somewhat refreshing. All too often in shows like this it's just "oh, I had to kill something...how mildly inconvenient". Or you simply have one overpowered person who asserts their dominance over the rest and overrides any potential good themes in the show by making it a classic case of OP character.

That said, remember your spoiler tags. If I had really read your post before watching the episode a bit ago, I would have been spoiled of basically everything that happened in the episode. Granted, the impact of the actual killing still would have been there, but not as significant when it's still a surprise moment over knowing who is going to make the kill and thus when. That aside, I do have high hopes still. This is looking like an anime very capable of providing a dramatic, all too realistic look on what it would truly be like to exist in the type of world we see in games.

No idea, i hope i dont tbh, it would just feel wrong. Keeping the thread up to date is whats more important to me.

I think Gooch would give you his thread lol.

TBH I'd be a poor person for that job. BraLod would be far better suited to it

I've been having small bursts of anime recently but now that I've found the 1.5x and 2.0x speed feature, I've been watching animes at 1.5x minimum now :p

Exception goes to interesting segments or it's the last episode where I'll watch at normal speed

Can't vote up Charlotte anymore... DX

Just kidding...thanks for taking over Versus!

Finally finished up what I wanted to with my Fall shows, and so I can finally jump into this season. I've only started Phantom World and Erased so far...but I'm enjoying both. Though I worry my interest in the first is mostly just Mai-senpai...hehe.

Still at least three more anime on my radar that I want to start...but we'll see how that goes.

I watched the first couple of episodes of Luck & Logic. It isn't bad so far, but I'm kind of wondering what the central plot of the season is going to be.
