Forums - Gaming Discussion - Gamestop to roll out a credit card with really high interest rate

I'll never understand why people use creditcards while not able to pay back on time. I have set my card in a way that the money i use, will be withdrawn from my account instantly. This way i never pay interest. If you're too poor to so do then you shouldn't get a creditcard in the first place.

I don't know why anyone would sign up for this. I can't believe gamestop is even attempting this, it makes me not want to shop at gamestop anymore. I get almost all of my games from them.

GameStop has a reputation of upselling customers at the cash register. As annoying as incessantly turning down pre-orders and protection plans can be, though, it's child's play compared to what the brick-and-mortar videogame retail giant is expected to start pushing soon.

GameStop is set to offer its own credit card to customers that ties directly into the company's PowerUp Rewards program, according to anonymous sources. We obtained photographs that outline the details of the card showing that the primary incentive for signing up is 5,000 bonus points for PowerUp Basic members and 15,000 bonus points for PowerUp Pro members. Also noted are exclusive offers to cardholders.

The finer (and more important) terms of the GameStop credit card is that it will come packaged with an interest rate of 26.99%. Currently, the market average seems to be in the neighborhood of 13%. It's worth noting that the more prominent marketing materials specify that there are "special financing offers," so there may be an introductory period during which there are significantly reduced rates.

It's unconfirmed at this time, but our sources were told that all PowerUp Rewards members are already pre-approved for the card. While it's unknown when GameStop intends to introduce this program, it's likely to be in the near future, given the fact that the marketing materials have already been created. Whenever it is, just make sure to proceed with caution -- tacking some bonus points onto your GameStop rewards account is an alluring prospect, but if you aren't confident in your financial situation, there are much more attractive credit cards with far fewer potential long-term repercussions.

Why do still shop at Gamestop? lol

Amazon is miles better.

Yeah this is why I don't shop at Gamestop.

Personal opinion.

I really dislike the culture of "credit card" or borrowing money. Many of my friends are using is without any caution. I havent taken any credit card and will not take it ever. I do remember a salesman of a local bank who used to come in my office frequently. His flattering made me sick and I refused him politely. Japan is only developed nation that has lower usage of credit card. I do like them. I wish most people acted like Japanese people.

Gamestop is planning to suck out more from gamers especially teenagers. From a small pawn shop they have created an empire by exploiting people. It wont last forever.

Just pay it off properly.

Boom, instant benefits.

sadly i rarely see interests rates below 20% thanks to over regulation.

Is that true? I was about to write something in the vein that 26.99% is impossible, then I read your comment. To me, that interest rate is unthinkable, but I live in EU.

We have a law that forbids any bank from charging more than 11.99% annually, and that percentage is only when your account enters overdraft.

I myself have several credit cards, most are 7.99%, and one is interest free, only an annual fee gets paid.

If I lived in the USA, I'd surely be reading those CC contracts more carefully.

I hope this isn't true...I already have to ask about too many services when someone make a purchase..."Do you want the Game Protection Guarantee, no okay, Would you like to sign up for our Pro Benefits card, no okay, would you like to sign up up for our credit card, how about a pre-order for Destiny? PLEASE at least say yes to the free basic power card....". FML

I guess out of habit, I have been getting my games there since ps2/gamecube era. Most of my friends tell me the same thing, just shop on Amazon! I may look into that soon. I have never purchased anything on ebay or Amazon though.
