Perfect mix, and I am glad they allowed Chris Pratt to take his role seriously instead of making him crack too many jokes. Perfect balance I feel. Vin disel.......redeemed himself imo. Too many fast and furious movies and bombs made me over him. Great job!

I missed any end sequences though.

Try to word this best to avoid spoiler.

The first ten minutes means you missed Star Lord as a child and how he got to space...so not massive but may have caused confusion for later emotional impact.

End sequences are inconsequential, but amusing reference for comic book fans.

Yea such an awesome actor. Love him in Parks and Recreation. Also, i agree how it is kind of hard to say if this was best or better than that. I enjoyed the hell out of it and that is what matters.

To see the characters in the film you need to look for the 2008 Guardians relaunch and more recent Bendis work (although I've not read it so can't comment on how good it is). If you get anything older you'll get really confused. The original comics is set in the 31st Century.

Heading into its second weekend how big a drop will Guardians see? Take a look at the competition.

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 21% on Rotten Tomatoes (as of 8/8/14)
This is easily the biggest challenger. Turtles now have two generations of name recognition and seems to be big marketing push behind this. The question is will critics slamming it matter, or will it be like Transformers where people see it anyways?

2. Step Up: All In - 44% on Rotten Tomatoes (as of 8/8/14)
They still make these? I had no idea this was even coming out, but apparently they do okay if they keep cranking them out. Feels like a different audience to me and don't expect it to make a big impact.

3. Into the Storm - 17% on Rotten Tomatoes (as of 8/8/14)
Had no idea this was coming out either, looks like a 70s disaster film or Sci-Fi TV movie. I cannot imagine it doing well with such major competition around it.

4. The Hundred Foot Journey - 58% on Rotten Tomatoes (as of 8/8/14)
Feels more like an indy film which is distinct market with little marketing. Does not seem to be much buzz around it either so not expecting much here.


Predictions!

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 50 million
2. Guardians of the Galaxy - 45 million
3. Lucy - 12 million
4. Step Up: All In - 10 million
5. Into the Storm - 8 million
6. Hundred Foot Journey - 6 million

thanks i will probably get a Marvel unlimited subcription before the end of the year so i can Guardians along with some other Marvel heroes like Spider-Man and Captain America.

Right now looks like Turtles is going to dominate the weekend with Guardians of the Galaxy taking a big hit. Shame release dates aligned like this. Hope it still manages to do well and gets support internationally.

2. Guardians of the Galaxy - 41 million (-4)
3. Lucy - 9 million (-3)
4. Step Up: All In - 6 million (-4)
5. Into the Storm - 18 million (+10)
6. Hundred Foot Journey - 11 million (+5)

Underestimated Turtles and Storm quite a bit.  Next week sees Expendables III enter the fray.
