Forums - Nintendo - What if Wii failed?

Didn't Iwata say that if the Wii did not do better than Gamecube, they would have no reason to stay in the industry?

Infact, I found it. http://forums.sega.com/showthread.php?63386-Iwata-If-Wii-Doesn-t-Outsell-GameCube-We-ve-Failed

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

I would like to think that they would have really focused on making better hardware, updated games and a decent controller, but they did not do that after the GC.

They would either:
A: Try to find another gimmick. Or
B: Do the same as Sony and Microsoft are doing.

It would have been more likely they would have taken the second route.

The only thing that is sure is that they would not have named it the wii u.

Nintendo would have to swallow their pride to take the second route. They are too proud and controlling of a company to do that. Work with third parties? Fuck that. The Wii was destined to happen. It drew a hollow crowd and did not give Nintendo lasting results but quick pleasure and quick sales. All these loyal gamers that Nintendo found. Where are they?

A couple of things:

1)A lot less games on PS360. It is well known that companies were making cheap cash ins)(shovelware) for Wii and using those gains to help offset losses spent on proper games for the PS360
2) No move, no kinect, no Just Dance and its ilk
3) Either no Wii successor(go handheld only), or a horsepower driven one(maybe not as powerful as X1 or PS4 but more powerful), no tablet.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

more third party companies would die, a lot of third party companies survived only because of wii.

Then Nintendo's 8th gen console would have been radically different from what we have today, that's for sure!
