Forums - Microsoft - Does MS have an IP that on level with Gears or Halo that we don't know about?

So what that Dave guy says is fact now? Anyone that thinks otherwise is 'definitely' wrong?

Certainly what Dave Halverson ( http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2009/02/column_game_mag_weaseling_dave.php ) says can be taken as Gospel.  Going back to 1991 or so, he's basically ( there are a few exceptions that have usually been part of his staff at his magazines like Nick Des Barres whose statements can also be taken in that light, Raychul Moore seems to be doing a good job ) the only American Games Journalist with a mind of his own that is unaffected by corporate dollars ( which is the only reason most Xbox games have scored as high as they have )

Sorry but I'm gonna have to disagree. Never even heard of the guy before and regardless of what he has done in the past it doesn't really matter. I'd rather play a game myself and see if I like it or not, pretty sure most people think that way as well.

Well, I played the first Gears of War game myself.  It was just a black and white ripoff of the 6th Gen Games "Kill.Switch", "Resident Evil 4", and "Freedom Fighters" one short on rails driving sequence, one puzzle that seemed to be ripped out of one of Final Fantasy X's temple sequences, and one boss battle stolen from Zelda:  The Windewaker with an occassional splash of red like Vizion Eck ( but Vizion Eck also has some blue, yellow, and green, better music and is like 2011's Overall Game of the Year Portal II in more regards as well ).

Dave Halverson said he wanted more heroines and less token GI Joes.  Well, if you look at the characters in Gears, they're all about as token as you can get.  They're all just a bunch of brainless jocks ripped out of the Madden series and, oh, yeah, you have the most stereotypical African American character EVER in a video game that apparently so many people love because he's so stereotypical.

The first Gears game didn't even measure up to Heavenly Sword or even Folklore and the succeeding games in the series kept getting worse from all that.

The only reasons anyone bought it was because they belong to the Cult of X which basically means you think all games should be Western Made ripoffs of PC games on underpowered gaming consoles OR because they were racist ( which also explains why they're vehemently opposed to the fact that the games Sony puts out are magnitudes better ).

Stop baiting. You are in the know just as much as us. If there was a mega IP, we'd all know.

It's Halo right now they are pushing. This year alone:

Halo Broken Circle novel, Halo Escalation graphic novel series, Halo MCC, Halo Nightfall, Halo 5 beta.

I'm not baiting, I was just hoping they found someone to replace the new IP they dropped and Gears wont cut it. Gears was the only heavy hitter MS had that they acquired last gen from Epic. Halo was acquired the gen earlier. As I noticed earlier, I am putting a lot of hope in Remedy to be the one to make the next heavy hitter for MS.

You are baiting. Because you know as well as I do right now MS has nothing to supplement Gears and Halo. Remedy is great, but not 6 million+ sales great.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Not really as its easy to see from lookiing at Metacritic ( or Game Rankings ) that the Best Sony exclusives The Last of Us, Uncharted 2 ( which I'm pretty sure has a higher Metacritic ranking than MGS 2  ) Little Big Planet, etc. were all better than any exclusive Microsoft has had since the first Halo game since the Halo series kept declining in quaiity with each passing installment ( and especially so now since Bungie's not even making Halo games, they're making Destiny with its Best Version coming exclusively to PS4 ), and as has been the case with the Gears of War series and as will even more severely be the case with future Xbox One Gears  games, since future Xbox One Gears games are going to be developed by Black Tusk and not Epic the series original creators who couldn't even keep the series from declining in quality from its first installment which at its best wasn't even on par with Uncharted, The Last of Us, etc. to begin with.

So, you agree that Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is a better game than The Last of Us, and on-par with Uncharted 2. Gotcha.

The Last of Us had superior writing to MGS2. On a developmental level it was two different generations of development. Naughty Dog wasnt on level with Team Kojima until Sony bought them. A lot of teams are copying their approach to gaming these days.

Thank you for your personal insight, but it is not needed here. Your statement has nothing to do with the discussion brought by EdHieron. As long as Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty has more Metascore than The Last of Us, his point and mine still stand.

Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, MediaMolecule, ThatGameCompany, Sony Santa Monica, Team ICO routinely crush them ( and every other Microsoft developer).  Quantic Dream and Ninja Theory certainly hold their own.

Naughty Dog are amazing developers but the others are only average at best.

Yeah, Sony Santamonica, Sucker Punch,  Guerilla Games, Media Molecule, Polyphony are all average. You're so right. Microsoft internally has no shot against all of Sony's developers pumping out games one after the other. There is a reason Microsoft primarily shells out money to every third party in sight.

If it wasn't for Naughty Dog movies Sony would be one of the worst publishers out there.

Ok...so by discounting the Last of Us when its obvious that the game is a 95 metacritic shouldn't it be in the same league as top games in the action adventure bracket?

Ignorance is bliss. Sony had the most high rated exclusives last gen.

It's not 96 in Metacritic, so yes.

Don't argue with me. Redirect yourself to EdHieron if this line of logic isn't up to your taste. I'm just using his own system against him.

You make zero sense. One point is no reason to discount a game unless bias is weighing it down. I'm done with you.
