Manuals are not a victim of 8th gen. They have become obsolete during last gen already, because it is a waste of money and paper to print them when they are easily available on the internet.

Yeah, I miss manuals. Even Nintendo got rid of manuals, though they have digital manuals now that are more than the page long things you get in the case. But I miss my good old paper manuals with the pretty artwork that sometimes even had an extra bit of story.
Most games to be honest manuals didn't matter that much but i remember the Civilization 2 manual was great and also very much essential for new players. It is more tedious having to read a faq or help menu online to find help as opposed to having a proper book, and the Civ II manual was literally a book.
When I bought a game from a shop it was always fun to read the manual before arriving home.
Yeah, I miss them. But I still like to browse my old manuals. Anyone here has a Falcon 4.0 manual? That one's the shit as 600+ pages.

You haven't seen the great manual for ACIV.
2 pages of button mapping and 20 pages about DLC.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
I actually get excited when I find a game with a manual, it's like finding a pack of gushers you forgot you had lol
