Forums - Gaming - Will the XB1 be able to outsell the Wii U from this point on?

NBA 2k14 released a month and a half before the Next gen systems, of course last gen outsold it. But when we look at PS4 vs XB1 the story is clear, the XB1 doesn't even come close to PS4 in multiplat sales.

Call of Duty Ghosts: PS4 by ~500k

Watch Dogs: PS4 by ~1.2m

Fifa 2014: Ps4 by ~1.2m

ACIV: BF: PS4 by ~900k

BF4: PS4 by ~500k

The XB1 rarely comes close to the PS4 in multiplat sales, only doing well close to launch before the gap became so pronounced. High attach rates means jack sh*t early in the consoles life because there's not much else to have if you don't want your system to be a $400+ paperweight. It also doesn't mean much when the numbers are so skewed. If only two people owned an ouya and one bought a title, it would have a 50% attach rate.

Third party titles are NOT console movers for the XB1. No one would buy an XB1 for multiplats when the PS4 is the same price, has better graphics, and comes with more exclusives. The only people who have XB1s are those who wanted Halo and Gears or the people who have multiple next gen systems. Ask anyone on these forums or any others, that has a PS4 and an XB1 to tell you which console they would by Destiny or any other multiplat for. Barring "XB1 because my friend have it" it's going to be almost 100% PS4.

Even though this debate is XB! vs Wii U, the PS4 plays a major role. Those awesome third party multiplats that XB1 gets over Wii U mean nothing if they don't translate to console sales. Seeing as WD gave the PS4 a massive bump and didn't so much as budge the XB1, I'm going to say that the PS4 is crippling the XB1's sales boost from those titles you keep bragging about.

Halo is on the decline on a floundering system.Let's say it sells at a 50% attach rate. You're looking at all of 4mil in sales if the XB1 manages to get up to 8mil units sold by its release. It's not hard to surpass that with Smash alone, let alone that plus exclusives like Captain Toad, Zelda, Star Fox, Splattoon, Bayonetta, and eventually Metroid and SMG's successor. Not even considering how you'd quantify amiibo.

Yeah Skylanders hasn't sold halo like numbers, but it does produce a disproportionately large amount of money. To play Skylanders, you need to buy the portal peripheral for $45 at retail. Then characters cost $10-15 each. Considering every child that I've met that owns skylanders (6) has at least 12 of the damn things, and Activision claimed the attach rate of the toys was "2 to 3 times" greater than they expected, I'm going to say it's a pretty good market. Those kids spent almost 4 times as much money on that single game than you would a copy of COD. Keep in mind that was 12 at least in my example. There are currently 249 different Skylanders figures. I won't even touch the Disney Infinity series.

I bet you every developer wants to get in on that growing market. Not having to design your own version of the portal or toys is nice for the developer because Nintendo already paid for that risk for them by building it into the gamepad and offering amiibo tech to third parties. Consumers will like it more than the Skylanders model because you don't have to buy more peripherals for each company that puts out smart toys, you don't have to buy a new toy line for each series, and you can use the amiibo across multiple titles outside of a single series.

What does NBA's release date have to do with it outselling the next gen versions just now in the last NPD? You can throw Ghosts in there as well, the 360 version outsold the next gen versions in the June NPD as well. Of course, I am sure you have a nifty excuse for those games not being a big deal when the 360 version outsells the PS4 version, but it's still a big deal when the 360 version of WD outsells the Xbone version. Can't wait to read it.

You're confusing the discussion, no one said 3rd party titles are outright system sellers. Combined with exclusives, they can be though. Wii U has almost none. That wil be a big deal to most gamers regardless of what platform they are looking to buy.

I don't care about your Halo tripe anymore, you're only making my case for me by continuing to crap on it while claiming Nintendo will have to attack it with multiple of their titles. Also, the talk about being on a floundering system and on the decline can apply to literally every Nintendo Wii U title as well :)

I'm glad Amiibo will make Nintendo a lot of money. Toys that capitalize on children usually rake in lots of money. Of course, none of that is relevant. We have seen the demand for toy based games and they might bring in tons of revenue but it sure isn't from software sales, they sell well but not anything amazing like you're making it out to be. And AFAIK Amiibo has no software anyway, it just adds on to other games on a console hardly anyone buys.

And yeah, I bet 3rd party companies can't wait to utilize that. Like.. whoever publishes Lego games. And licensed games. Megatons galore.

The only thing I could see "saving" Wii U at this point is Amiibo if it turns out well. See, it's going to be one of those things where it either cripples the console or gets it selling millions yearly. There will be no inbetween

So the wii u keeps outselling the x1 world wide. Nobody wants to admit the new baseline for the wii u increased to 60k, while the x1 sits at 60k as well but is still droping.

Because it didn't, it's still MK8 boosting the sales and that won't last forever. It probably will drop below XOne in the coming weeks and come September it won't be able to beat it for a long time, if ever(atleast for a full month).

I was going to post here, but it seems I've been beaten to the punch lol.

Sales may be staying high because people are just now showing interest in the Wii U and there's a backlog of great games for the newcomers to enjoy. I can name a lot more titles worth owning for the Wii U than I can for any other system, and I don't even own them all yet.

If the Wii U is in trouble for the drought, then the XB1 is screwed because I don't really recall any heavy hitters for it until the MCC. Japanese sales for Nintendo's console may pick up in August with HW, and then the Western market gets the game in late September. That should be the start of a great period for Wii U.

I do have some questions though:

1) Will Nintendo have another promotion ready for when the Mario Kart 8 deal ends?

2) Are there any more hidden games in the Wii U lineup? Fatal Frame was announced so close that it makes you wonder if there are any more titles that are closer than we think.

3) Will Nintendo finally push for a port of Minecraft? The game is a major hit and with added game pad functionality could be the definitive home console version.

Uh...I do not think you know what you are talking about. No way is Amiibo the thing that "saves" the Wii U. And I totally disagree. There is definitely an in between and that's exactly what will happen. It will not cripple the console and it will not boost it's sales by as much as you are trying to say it will. And millions yearly? All the major consoles sell millions yearly.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Do you still count on third partys to move x1? Prepare for disapointment. After each exclusive realease the wii u will double the x1 on every realease week.
